Berea-Midpark used strong defense and clutch shooting later to pull off the 52 – 45 at North Ridgeville today.  They were led by the sharp shooting sophomore Regan Braaten with 20 points while Emma Arnold had 11.  Casey Friel scored 10 while Mya Walker had 9 and Rylee Szojka put in 2.

For the Rangers, they scored 18 first quarter points, but cooled after that, never again scoring in the double digits for a quarter.  They were led by CC Bauman with 15 and Lauryn Bohanon with 11 while Gabby Thibodeaux had 6 and Reyna Balderas scored 5.  The Ranger scoring was rounded out by Brooke Schroeder with 4 while Yamilia Scott and Adrianna Spyres each had 2.

I spoke with Titan head coach Kevin McNamara about his teams defensive effort in the final three quarters, “We are a defensive team and we need to play that way early on.  We just needed to remind ourselves at halftime of who we are and make a push late.  Our conference is the best there is and we needed to learn how to win late while having a lead and another team making a comeback.  We were able to do that today. “

The Rangers actually jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first to start things off today.  The Titans came roaring back and made it a game by the end of the first period, only being down 18-15.  Braaten had 6 in the quarter to keep them in it.  The second period was all Titans as they outscored the Rangers 19-9, including a three at the buzzer from Miya Rivera.

Earlier in the quarter, a Miya Walker three gave the Titans their first lead of the game at 23-20. Moments beforehand it was a three ball from Braaten that tied it.  A Bohanan three for the Rangers tied it again at 23 before the Titans pulled away for the halftime lead.

The first five minutes of the second half saw no field goals for the Rangers while the Titans at one point increased their lead to double digits at 43-32.  The Rangers closed things on a run to cut it to 43-37 heading into the final quarter.

Once there a 4-0 run by the Rangers cut it to 43-41 to start things off before a Braaten three helped the Titans pull away for good.  Berea-Midpark would go on to win 52-45 in this one.
