Avon Falls to Berea-Midpark, 59-55

The Avon Eagles varsity women’s basketball team took on the Berea-Midpark Titans at their home court in Avon, Ohio on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022.

The battle between the Lady Eagles and Titans ended up being a close game that relied on key plays that were made in the fourth quarter. The Lady Titans ended up on top 59-55, to bring home the victory to Berea-Midpark.

Abby Liber, for the Eagles, started off the game strong by getting the tip-off. Liber was also the first one to put a score on the board. The first quarter was back and forth as both teams were eager to make this their first win of the new year. The Eagles were in the lead 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Titans and the Eagles were still showing the same energy throughout the second quarter. The Titans were in the lead at halftime, 24-22 after Lauren Yee scored two points right before the buzzer.

The Titans got a huge lead in the third quarter, 47-37. Kendall Braaton had 12 points in the third quarter for the lady Titans. Lauren Lantow had 9 points in the third quarter for the Titans. The Eagles had made four, three-point shots in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to the Titans.

The lady Eagles defense started working together to stop the Titans from shooting in the fourth quarter. The Eagles caught back up to the Titans within the final minutes of the game, keeping everyone on the edge of their seat. Liber for the Eagles scored a layup that put two points in between the Titans and the Eagles. The Eagles were back in the game and eager to try and win the game. A missed three-pointer set the Eagles back. The Titans made two foul shots with nine seconds to go in the fourth quarter which made the Titans ahead enough to have secured the win. The lady Titans finished with a win, 59-55.

The leading scorers for the Titans were Kendall Braaten with a total of 24 points and Lauren Yee with a total of 16 points.

The leading scorers for the lady Eagles were Brooke Laub with a total of 19 points and Abby Liber with a total of 15 points.
