GRAFTON, OH – The Midview Middies had their senior night and hosted the game against the Avon Eagles. There was no home field advantage in the game. Avon showed little mercy towards Midview with a final score of 42-7.
Avon set the energy of the game in the first quarter. The Eagles took control of the game on the very first play. The team came out strong and stayed strong throughout. Midview lost the ball quickly, no yards were gained in the first possession. Avon got possession of the ball again and immediately scored a touchdown on the return. Senior Evan Garcia’s touchdown followed by the PAT by Seth Warrick put Avon up 7-0.
When Midview got the ball back in their hands, they made no significant gain in yards again. Avon senior Drew Lindsay scored another touchdown. Seth Warrick added another PAT for the Eagles (14-0).
Midview got their first first down of the game courtesy of junior Hunter Anderson. There was a fumble on an exchange right after and the ball was returned to Avon’s hands. To end the first quarter, Avon junior Jackorion Caffey scored a touchdown. The first quarter concluded with a score of 21-0 in favor of the Eagles.
The second quarter became much more of an even playing field for both teams. It looked like Midview found their feet and added much more pressure on Avon this quarter. There were a few close attempts for touchdowns for both teams but none were secured until the last 26 seconds of the quarter. Avon junior Ethan Holbrook scored the touchdown making the final score of the first half 28-0.
The third quarter started with a 28-yard touchdown run from Jakorion Caffey of Avon. The running clock now began due to the 35-0 Avon lead. Avon came out after halftime with more energy than the second quarter. They kept the ball moving throughout the third quarter. Sophomore QB Nolan Good scored his first of the night at the 2-minute mark and Seth Warrick tacked on a PAT. The final score of the third quarter was 42-0 Avon.
The final quarter concluded quickly. Midview kept their intensity throughout and their effort showed. The Middies had a significant energy shift, which can be due to a big 15-yard carry toward the endzone by senior Alex Swirynsky. Midview finally put points on the board with six minutes left. Senior Ethan Beitel scored the lone touchdown on the night. A PAT was added by Midview’s kicker Ethan Morris. The game ended with a 42-7 Avon victory.
