Avon used several explosive plays and a strong offensive performance to defeat Olmsted Falls 58-33.
Olmsted Falls had opportunities early but struggled to take advantage of them. A fumble gave Avon possession, and the Eagles quickly turned the turnover into points. Quarterback Trevor Sykora connected with Fin Jerdonek for a 90-yard touchdown, giving Avon a 7-0 lead.
Both defenses applied pressure throughout the rest of the first quarter. Olmsted Falls had chances to get on the scoreboard, but penalties and turnovers prevented the Bulldogs from building momentum.
Avon extended its lead during the second quarter when Sykora ran nine yards for a touchdown. The Eagles later completed a two-point conversion following an Olmsted Falls penalty. Sykora then found Gavin Koehler for a 75-yard touchdown, increasing Avon’s lead to 22-0.
Olmsted Falls responded before halftime when quarterback Cameron Pesch connected with Jon LaRue for a 10-yard touchdown. However, the extra point attempt was unsuccessful, and Avon entered halftime leading 22-6.
The Eagles continued their offensive success in the third quarter. Michael Colburn scored on a 44-yard touchdown to give Avon a 29-6 advantage. Olmsted Falls answered when Pesch found Adam Smith for a 17-yard touchdown. Pesch then ran for another touchdown later in the quarter, cutting into Avon’s lead.
Avon responded again when Sykora connected with Koehler for a 60-yard touchdown, sending the Eagles into the fourth quarter with a 37-20 lead.
Both offenses continued producing big plays in the final quarter. Sykora threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Bryce Chura while Pesch answered with a 65-yard touchdown run. Colbrun then broke free for an 84-yard rushing touchdown to give Avon a 51-26 lead.
Olmsted Falls scored again when Pesch connected with Smith, but a late fumble gave Avon another opportunity. Sykora found Jerdonek for a 25-yard touchdown to complete the 58-33 victory.
