Avon Lake Shoreman Win Against Benedictine Bengals

A field goal by Reece Polomsky gave Avon Lake a 3-0 lead to play with in the second quarter when they began to make distance between themselves and Benedictine. A short while later it was Wade Nelson taking it up the middle from around 8 yards out to extend the lead to 10-0. From there, a strip sack by Derek McCrum returned the ball back to the Shoremen in prime scoring position. They would cash in on it with a Anthony Benedict touchdown run from 11 yards out to make it 17-0.

Benedictine was close to scoring their first touchdown of the game, but intercepted by Luke Stuewe as Avon Lake snuffed out the drive. Benedictine had two turnovers in the second quarter, leaving the score 17-0 Shoreman at halftime.

The third quarter was a good time for Benedictine to make a comeback, however, linebacker Micheal Pace from Avon Lake intercepted the ball, making it Benedictine’s third turnover. Stuewe caught a 20-yard pass, making the score 24-0. It was a masterful catch that Stuewe absolutely laid out to grab.

Chris Maloney made a 25-yard rush inside the red zone to get the Bengal’s moving. On the next play, Luke Reed scored the touchdown for the Bengals. They decided to go for the two-point conversion, making the score 24-8 at the end of the third.

Avon Lake put the game away for good in early into the fourth with a touchdown run by Jake Bova who continues to have a monster season thus far. This score by Bova, brought the Shoremen lead to 30-7 and sent fans to the exits.

Bova would score again before the night was over, as the Shoremen closed it out with a tremendous and impressive 37-15 victory. The Shoremen will look to improve to 3-0 next week as they travel to Chardon.
