Avon Lake Shoregals Defeat Berea-Midpark Lady Titans 60-31 In SWC Clash

After an impressive non conference victory at Bellevue on Monday Night, the Avon Lake Shoregals had themselves another quality night, never trailing in their SWC Conference game against Berea Midpark en route to a 60-31 victory on Wednesday Night.

Avon Lake scored the first 6 points of the game; Brynn Bodnar hit a 3 point shot about 45 seconds into the game, Claire Springer made 1 of 2 free throws & Marisa Summerfield hit a short range jumper to jump start the Shoregals before Talyssa Moody got the Titans on the board with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

After Avon Lake extended the lead to 11-4, Courtney Simon hit a 3 pointer with about 2 minutes left & Lauren Yee made a free throw with 30 seconds left as Berea Midpark drew to within 11-8 after the first quarter.

In the beginning of the second quarter Avon Lake extended the lead to 16-8 before the Titans closed the gap to 16-12. But the Shoregals went on a 14-2 in the last 4:30 to essentially put the game away. Nine of the 14 points during the run came via the 3 point shot as Bodnar added another triple as did Olivia Tobin & Marisa Summerfield as her 3 ball came with 5 seconds left to complete the run as Avon Lake took a 30-14 halftime lead.

The Shoregals extended their lead to 48-25 after 3 quarters of play as Tobin & Summerfield each hit another 3-point shot each

Avon Lake improved to 4-3 on the season as they are back in action at Midview on Saturday.

Berea Midpark falls to 1-6 as they travel to Amherst on Saturday.

  1. Coach has to teach discipline of the ball. 20 TO almost every game is not good. The same players mostly responsible. That needs fixed somehow quickly. Should be blowing teams away and quite possibly be 5-1 without that crucial problem every game. These are 3rd grade mistakes; traveling, over and back, too frequent and no HS player should have multiple a game of those. When getting pressured, there are some that cannot handle the ball; it’s the coaches job to make sure they don’t get the ball in those situations. Doesn’t appear it will change; it’s a habit possibly not to be broken, but very costly, as a high school varsity player. TO are hurting this team badly. Go Shoregals

  2. I couldn’t agree more these girls look unorganized and lost out there when it comes to ball handling and turnovers. I was really enthusiastic about our chances this year with a lot of girls returning. I will say you cannot play 10-11 girls a game and expect to get in a groove. Go Shoregals, I also wanted to thank Kee on Sports for the coverage you give our Avon Lake community and surrounding areas for all you do for HS athletes.
