by It was a quiet and cool night in Avon as the Eagles made work of the Berea-Midpark Titans 52-21.
It was a down start for the Eagles as a quick three and out started the game after the Titans kickoff was able to land Avon in good field position.
Berea Mid-park then settled in on offense deep in their own territory with good runs from Xaviere Harden and Dylan Papushak gave the Titans some wiggle room with a couple of first downs. Then after a three and out from Berea Midpark, Avon took the ball and after some tough runs from Fin Jerdonek and Michael Colburn, quarterback Trevor Sykora found Jerdonek on a screen for a 58-yard touchdown pass to give the Eagles the 7-0 lead right within the first quarter.
From the first play after the Titans received the kickoff, Avon Defensive Back Carter Schram found a Papushak overthrow and caught it for an interception. The Eagles then got the ground game going with runs from Colburn and Adrian Ramirez that helped Colburn score from 7 yards out for a 14-0 Avon lead.
After another BMHS three and out, Avon would then get multiple guys touches for a good drive into the Titans field position. A few plays into the drive, Sykora found Caeden Bennett for a 11-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 21-0.
Avon would squib the kickoff after the score to give BMHS good field position. After a few runs from Harden, Papushak found receiver Andre Alexander from 32 yards out for a 21-7 deficit.
The Eagles started their next drive with a Jerdonek WR sweep for a 35-yard gain. A couple of plays later, Colburn took the handoff for an 8-yard touchdown run for a 28-7 lead.
After a Titan three-and-out, Dean Andress took his first carry for a 17-yard gain. That then set up a Sykora to Jerdonek connection through the air from 14 yards out to add to the lead at 35-7 for the Eagles.
Both teams’ special teams were squibbing kickoffs all night for good field position. The Eagles forced another three-and-out on the BMHS possession. After good runs from Colburn and a couple of offensive penalties, Sykora found Bennett for 16 yards in the air, then for 12 yards and a touchdown to give Avon a 42-7 lead into the half.
The Titans, after taking the second half opening kickoff, found their rhythm with a Papushak to Reece connection for 28 yards that then set up a Papushak to Alexander connection from 50 yards out to cut the deficit to 42-14 and turn off the running clock.
The Eagles then put Backup QB Casey Birth to run a couple of plays that gained success for the offense. That drive ended after a Birth pass was intercepted by Alexander, who played defense as well for the Titans.
The Titans then went nowhere with that possession and had some bad penalties involved. The Eagles then went out and used their depth at RB with great runs from Andress and Ramirez for good chunks. Sykora would go back into the game and deliver a strike to Bennett to give a 49-14 lead for the Eagles.
The Titans then took some runs from Harden and Nate Byland to set up a Papushak to Alexander 30-yard connection for the third time on the night to cut the deficit to 49-21.
Avon’s backups would then get in and move the ball on a couple of really good plays through both run and pass. A turnover on downs ended the promising drive for the Eagles. The Eagles, though, forced a fumble on the first play after the turnover on downs to get the ball right back.
A first down and a three-and-out helped set up an Eagles field goal from Jude Theirbert for a 52-21 lead.
This led to the final few plays from the Titans backups to finish the game for a 52-21 win for the Avon Eagles.
The Titans will look to recover with their game next week at home against North Ridgeville. The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways with a trip to Midview for next week.

Berea-Midpark- Andre Alexander; 4 catches, 118 yards, and three touchdowns and an interception on defense. His great play kept the Titans in the game all night.
Avon- Fin Jerdonek; 122 all-purpose yards and two receiving touchdowns. Explosive plays from him gave the Eagles a spark on offense.
