Avon Eagles Beat Bay Rockets 67-52 Behind 26 Points From Gavyn Kittelberger

The Avon Eagles played host to the Bay Rockets on senior night at Avon High School. After a rough first quarter, the Eagles took control of the game and rolled to a 67-52 victory. Gavyn Kittelberger could not have asked for much better of a senior night, scoring 26 points.

The Eagles raced out to an early 10-3 lead. The Rockets then closed the first quarter hot from behind the arc. Three triples, including 2 straight from Ethan George gave the Rockets a 14-12 after the first.

Kittelberger began the second quarter by scoring the Eagles first 7 points. A 13-0 run by Avon put them in front 27-15. 10 of the 13 points came from Kittelberger. Ethan George finally ended the run with his third three of the night for Bay.

Preston Johnson’s three pointer put the Eagles up 32-18 going into the half. The Eagles defense was ferocious in the second quarter. They held the Rockets to just 4 points on 1-7 shooting from the field.

The third quarter became a slam dunk party for the Eagles. Three straight dunks, 2 from Sam Griffiths and 1 from Kittelberger, helped extend their lead to 20. Ryan Miller did his best to keep the Rockets in the game, scoring 18 points in the second half.

Avon continued to cruise in the 4th quarter on their way to a 67-52 win. Eagles coach Mike Fitch had a lot of praise for Gavyn Kittelberger after the game, saying “Love the kid, he’s been playing his best basketball the last 4 or 5 games. It’s been pretty awesome to see what he can do for us, and having him back has been a pleasure.”
