Grafton – Just two weeks shy of the OHSAA football post-season, the Midview Middies (4-4) played host to take on the red-hot Avon Eagles (8-0) in week 8 of OHSAA football action. The Avon Eagles took control of the ballgame with a 49 to 10 victory over the host, the Midview Middies.
The Eagles started the game out strong driving all the way down the field for a 2-yard touchdown run by #16 Tyler Kaufmann. After the Eagle defense got the ball back the Eagle offense followed up with another trip to the endzone. Capping off this drive, #8 Matt Maxey caught the 15-yard touchdown off the hands of quarterback #5 Nolan Good. Not to be outdone the Middies drove halfway down the field and then quarterback #7 Cody Martin tosses it for a 50-yard touchdown to #8 Dior Jones.
The Eagles took control of the ball game in the second quarter. The Eagles offense drove down the field and #16 Kaufmann scored on a 31-yard touchdown run. Then the Eagles defensive lineman #55 Sam Toniolo intercepted the ball for a pick-6. Then when the Eagles got the ball back, they drove down the field and #5 Good threw a 34-yard touchdown to wide out #9 Kole Kepner to get the last score of the half.
After the Eagles defense stuffed the Middies, the Eagle offense methodically drove down to get a 4-yard touchdown run to #21 Cam Wendall. After another defensive stop from the Eagles, the offense got the ball back and quarterback #19 Blake Elder threw one pass to #81 Sammy Ulery for a 26-yard touchdown.
After driving some way down the field, the Middies’ offense was stalled but Kicker #25 Ethan Morris drove in the 45-yard field goal to put some more points on the board. The Eagle offense would run out the clock and the final score is Eagles 49, Middies 10.
Player of the game for the Eagles, is both #8 Matt Maxey and #9 Cole Kepner. Each got their own touchdown and 85 receiving yards. Maxey caught 6 passes and Kepner caught 4.
Player of the game for the Middies was #8 Dior Jones, with 117 receiving yards and his own touchdown on just 5 catches.
The Midview Middies (4-4) will continue conference play as they travel to Elyria to take on the Elyria Pioneers (0-8) at 7pm in week 9 of OHSAA football action.
The Avon Eagles (8-0) will host the Amherst Comets (6-3) for week 9, kickoff is slated for 7pm.
