Avon Cruises By Brunswick In Opener

AVON, OH – Avon and Brunswick came into tonight both looking to start their season on the right foot. Avon looked all but rusty as they used big performances from Nolan Good and Jakorion Caffey to propel them to a big 1-0 start.

In the first quarter, Caffey opened up Avon’s scoring by punching in a goal line touchdown, following up a dazzling 53-yard run. On the ensuing drive, quarterback Nolan Good took a 29-yard carry to the endzone.

Avon came out firing in the second quarter, as Good hit Matt Maxey up the seem for a 44-yard strike, making the score 21-0 Avon. With 7:52 left in the second quarter, Caffey scored his second touchdown of the night increasing the Eagles’ lead. Caffey finished the night with 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns. However, Avon wasn’t satisfied with their first half lead, as Good ripped a 37-yard touchdown pass to Cole Kepner. Avon headed into the half with a 35-0 lead. Meaning the second half, would at least start with the running clock rule.

Avon got the ball to start the half and the offense continued to motor down the field. Good hit tight end Evan Huff for 16 yards to convert a lengthy third down. The drive was capped off by Paul Leftrict who made an impressive leaping grab in the back of the endzone to put Avon up 42-0. Soon after, Brunswick finally responded with a score of their own and prevent the shutout. Quarterback Ethan Roksandich hit Hayden Swarm on a 52-yard bomb to put the Blue Devils on the board, making it 42-7. Avon tacked on one more score in the 4th quarter when quarterback Blake Elder hit Grant Barr down the sideline for a nice throw and catch, capping the scoring at 49-7.

Tonight’s player of the game was Avon quarterback Nolan Good. Through the air, Good was 12/17 with 204 yards and 3 touchdowns passes. He also added 6 carries for 68 yards and a score on the ground.
