- Solid acquisitions
The Cavaliers acquired Alfonzo McKinnie on October 21st, 2019 off waivers from the Golden State Warriors. He played sparingly early on and was waived on 1/6/20. McKinnie returned to the team on 1/9/20 and after playing on a pair of 10-day deals signed a multi-year deal on 2/8/20. Over his last 12 games McKinnie averaged 7.5 points & 4.1 rebounds per game. He has become a solid rotation player and the Cavaliers top wing defender.
The Cavaliers made a huge splash at the trade deadline acquiring two time all-star center Andre Drummond from the Detroit Pistons. After initially struggling to find his place in the Cavs offense, Drummond looked to be feeling more comfortable in coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s system before the season came to a halt. Over his last three games Drummond averaged 25.3 points & 12.3 rebounds. Will Drummond be part of the Cavs future? He holds a $28.75M player option for next season that he is expected to pickup. The Cavaliers front office may use next season to determine if he is worth a long term big dollar extension. Worst case scenario (assuming the option is picked up) is that Drummond becomes a massive trade chip at next season’s deadline to acquire more assets/talent for the roster.
