Archbishop Hoban advances to regional quarterfinal with 63-0 win over Kent Roosevelt

Akron, Ohio – Hoban scored 49 first half points en route to a 63-0 rout over visiting Kent Roosevelt Friday night.

Senior running back Victor Dawson rushed for a 42-yard touchdown to start off the scoring for the Knights early in the first quarter.

After a Roosevelt punt, Hoban would move down the field again, and Dawson would punch it in again, this time from 25 yards, to increase the Knight lead to 14-0. Later in the stanza, Dawson would add one more touchdown, this one from 13 yards out. He would have four carries for 85 yards and the three scores.

“We take this game seriously, no joking around. Our passing game opened up the running game, and we pursued really well.” said Dawson.

Senior quarterback Shane Hamm would take to the air and find junior Shawn Parnell for a 62-yard touchdown reception, and by the time the first quarter ended, Hoban was up 28-0.

“We’re on to the next week of playoffs. Gotta keep moving forward. We threw the ball some tonight and it helped our guys find holes. Our running backs did a great job of finding holes and making people miss.” said Hamm.

In the second stanza, Hamm would punch it in from a yard out to increase the lead to 35-0. Hamm would finish the night 6 of 7 passing for 129 yards and a touchdown. He also added four carries for 27 yards and a score.

After a Shawn Parnell interception, senior running back Damon Ollison II would take it to the house from 34 yards out, further adding to the lead, 42-0.

“We watched a lot of film. We’re taking playoffs a lot more seriously. Especially after what happened last year.” said Ollison II. “We have a lot of backs that are fast.”

Sophomore quarterback Luke Fischer came in the game and found senior Marquette Fikes for a 48-yard touchdown reception to close out the scoring in the first half.

After a scoreless third stanza, the Knights would add two more rushing touchdowns to close out the scoring.

“It’s a good team win, but not a perfect win.” said Hoban head coach Tim Tyrrell. “There’s a lot of things we have to work on and get better. We’re gonna get in tomorrow morning and keep working and move forward.” he added.

Hoban improves to 6-0 and advances to take on Mayfield next Friday night.

“I just told our guys that we have a three game season ahead of us. If we win all those games, we finish with a winning record.” said Kent Roosevelt coach Alan Vanderink. “We have a lot to shoot for and our goal is to finish with a winning record.”

Kent Roosevelt falls to 1-3 and travels to Cuyahoga Falls next Friday night to continue regular season play.
