AFC Preseason Power Rankings

(7) Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns will finish the season 10-6 and miss the playoffs in the ultimate bittersweet season.  I expect huge things from the offense this season, how can you not?  They must remain healthy and they can be deadly.

OBJ is one of the best in the game, and Mayfield seems to improve each week.  Nick Chubb is a beast and unstoppable in the open field.  I expect Myles Garrett to have a huge season now that the shackles of Greg Williams are gone.

They are loaded on both sides of the ball and have the NFL’s best fanbase.  There would be no better story in sports then the Browns making the playoffs this season.  Sadly, it won’t happen and here is why.

They have an unproven offensive line.  They play in a tough division.  They have a rookie head coach.  They have question marks on defense, and must pray that their new additions step up and return to form.  Myles Garrett cannot be expected to do it all.

Denzel Ward is a shut down corner, there is no denying that, but until he learns to stop leading with his head, he is going to continue to miss time.

Kareem Hunt is gone for the first 8 weeks of the season, and there is no guarantee he can stay out of trouble and return week 9.  In fact the smart money is that if he gets in trouble again, he will never play a single regular game in a Browns uniform.

Yes, Nick Chubb is incredible, but late in the season, certain teams did find a way to shut him down.  The plus side to that being that the passing game may be the greatest in Cleveland Browns history.  With OBJ, Callaway, Landry and Higgins, who the heck can defenses stop?  They won’t.

In the end, I see the Browns going 4-4 to start the season, and then 6-2 to finish it.  People will piss and moan and rant and rave that I have them missing the playoffs, and I assure you that I hope I’m wrong.  But at the end of the day, incredible offense or not, simply too many questions marks.

I will hedge my bet slightly and say this, if the Browns find a way to go 5-3 in the first 8, and finish 11-5.  Not only are they winning the AFC North, they are going to the AFC championship game in Kansas City where their season will then end.
