Grand Slam Tournament of Champions Finale for the AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson
AEW couldn’t have gone wrong with either guy as champ, but this is a great way to reward a sober Jon Moxley who has overcome so much and was even willing to do the honors for CM Punk.
This now makes Moxley a 4-time World Champion with the company, if you count his run with the Interim belt as well. I would have loved Danielson to hoist the gold, but this will set up the feud perfectly with MJF as the groundwork has already been laid down.
AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Acclaimed vs. Swerve In Our Glory (c)
The result of this match proves that Tony Khan is the biggest mark in the history of the business. No one has been this easily swayed by emotion since Vince Russo was in charge of booking for WCW. If I’m Keith Lee and Isiah Scott Swerve, I’m on the phone with HHH tomorrow, begging to come back!
AEW All-Atlantic Championship Match: Orange Cassidy vs. Pac (c)
Pac retaining the title here was the smart move. However, he should only be defending the belt against non-American fighters in the first place. If they want to do this right, rename it the Global Championship and go from there.
Interim AEW World Women’s Championship Match: Toni Storm (c) vs. Athena vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD vs. Serena Deeb
Paige is back, using her actual name of Saraya, and that alone was enough to get excited about after Toni Storm retained the belt. To me, the thought of an “Interim Championship” makes little to no sense anyway. The real match everyone wants to see is Thunder Rosa vs Jade Cargill anyway.
Will “Paige” be a total washout like so many former WWE Divas currently floundering in AEW, or will this be the resurgence her life and career need.
