As for the two women’s matches, it remains clear that the AEW Women’s division is light years behind WWE and in serious trouble with their best talent Dr. Britt Baker now on the shelve. WWE is remarkable and the AEW needs some talent defections if they are going to be credible.
Perhaps with Hikaru Shida on top now, things will change. She is a difference maker and can lead the division but needs to be on TV weekly.
That has been the problem thus far. Their first champion was never around, and the second was seen as a beast who had to cheat at times and take cheap shots.
That is not a good look for AEW, and they need to focus on the in-ring wrestling each and every week with their champion in the spotlight. Her title win last night was the best moment in the AEW Women’s division history.
As for Penelope Ford, with Baker down she stepped up big last night against Kris Statlander. Despite the loss, Ford made the most of her opportunity and deserves more matches.
She is not a poor mans Mandy Rose and has the talent and background to make a difference on the main stream. They need to continue to give her a chance.
Why are they making Shawn Spears such a joke? I don’t get it. At one time this guy was a hit in NXT and once the WWE called him up to the main roster, he has never been the same.
I thought perhaps the jump to AEW would help, but he remains a joke and it is a shame. But not everyone can be a world champion so I get that part of it. Humor is needed at times I guess…..
For the record I am glad that Dustin Rhodes hasn’t retired. He continues to be a locker room leader and someone the young guys can really lean on. I would love to see a feud with him on MJF down the line, but I foresee the next MJF feud being with Luchasauras.
