YOUNGSTOWN, OH – AEW took over the Covelli Center in Youngstown tonight in front of a packed house. AEW has been on quite the hot streak as of late and they continued the momentum with a strong showing tonight.
It had a solid tv opener as AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion defeated their toughest challenge yet in the form of Tay Melo and Anna Jay, now known as TayJay. The rumors Anna Jay leaving for WWE clearly were false as she is staying put with her boyfriend Jack Perry in AEW. Despite the loss, they looked strong and I wouldn’t be shocked if the straps are placed with TayJay before the year is out.
Up next we received a competitive match as Alan Angels took on Shane Taylor. After his powerful win over Angels, he grabbed the microphone and challenged The Death Riders with, ““Jonathan Moxley, you said it was real simple, right? If we wanted everything you got, all we had to do was beat your ass. I’ll take that bet, son. Why don’t you bring your ass down here? Bring your crew and let’s see if you can rumble, bad man, rumble?”
Not one to back away from a challenge, out came the Death Riders for an impromptu match as we received a surprise Trios Match: Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, PAC and Claudio Castagnoli) defeated. Shane Taylor Promotions (ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty and The Infantry’s “Capt.” Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo)
Up next Tommaso Ciampa got back on the winning track of hitting the struggles as of late when he defeated Beef. The match was a squash but that is also when things got very strange afterwards. Ciampa attacked BEEF after the bell and stomped him to the floor. Ciampa yelled at commentary to let Jericho know that he’s coming. Ciampa put BEEF in the Liontamer on the floor once again and asked for a microphone.
It got even weirder from there as Ciampa forced Tony Schiavone to say that Ciampa is better than Jericho or he’d break BEEF’s back! Schiavone said, “You’re better than Jericho.” Ciampa wasn’t done yet however and demanded he say, “Tommaso Ciampa is better than Chris Jericho!” It was an awkward segment but did reenforce how hard AEW is working to get Ciampa over as a major heel.
Clearly Shane Taylor didn’t take the loss well as he and Adora were fond backstage taking out Wheeler Yuta with a beatdown. Taylor promised everyone that the Death Riders would feel his pain and he got his point across.
Later in the night the fans were treated to their second title match of the night as AEW World Trios Championship Match: The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) (c) defeated La Facción Ingobernable (RUSH, Dralístico & ROH World Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara). The match was loaded with highly fast paced action as you would expect.
A few matches were then made for Dynamite on Wednesdays Blockbuster episode as The Dogs vs The Young Bucks was announced as was the match between Orange Cassidy versus Andrade El Idolo.
The main event featured Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Quarterfinal: Hazuki defeated CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone. It was following this main event that the fans got a surprise treat as Merecedes Monet arrived to attack Hazuki in an effort to soften her up before their semifinal match on Dynamite.
