Midlothian Heritage Takes Down Corsicana Behind Third-Quarter Surge

Midlothian, TX – It was a catfight on Friday evening as the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars took on the Corsicana Tigers to officially reach the midpoint of district play. Heritage pounced on a 3rd quarter lead to take the matchup and break their home losing streak which dates back to last season.

The Rundown

The teams locked into a stale mate early in the matchup exchanging punts and fourth down turnovers with neither side producing any offense at all in the first quarter. Finally, though a side was able to get some production as Corsicana pounded the ground to start the second quarter. Their running game was able to take them the length of the field before they were stifled and had to settle for a 10-yard field goal from Giancarlo Zuniga taking a 3-0 lead. The Jaguars remained calm though and began their own push with Paxtyn Gonzalez connecting down the field to Jaxson Bruton twice in the closing drive of the half with the second connection going 30-yards for a go-ahead touchdown to close out the first half, 7-3.

In the third the Tigers started with the ball but did not keep it very long as they punted to set up Heritage with good field position for them to quickly capitalize on. Not only did Riley Norton cap off that drive with a 4-yard touchdown, but he also scored on the next drive pushing the Jaguars out to an 18-point lead. Corsicana finally responded though with a rushing touchdown of their own from the 1-yard line by Allen Walker II. After a missed point after attempt Corsicana seemed to have life as the game headed into the fourth quarter at 21-9.

The fourth brought little action once again as each team continued to fight for offense with struggles on each side. Heritage though was able to push across another touchdown on a bomb of a throw from Bruton to Marshall Tchimou for a 50-yard completion and touchdown.
