Strongsville Defeats Mentor, 56-30

Strongsville defeated Mentor 56-30 after jumping out to an early lead and continuing to make big plays on offense throughout the game.

 

Strongsville opened the game with a strong offensive drive, scoring on a 42-yard touchdown run to take an early 7-0 lead.

 

The Mustangs continued to control the game after forcing a short Mentor punt. Strongsville’s defense came up with a big stop, giving the offense another opportunity to extend the lead.

 

Strongsville capitalized on the field position, scoring another touchdown on the ground to make it 14-0.

 

Mentor answered with a 40-yard field goal, cutting the deficit to 14-3.

 

Strongsville responded with another rushing touchdown, extending its lead to 20-3.

 

Mentor quarterback Corbin Bissett then provided an answer of his own, rushing for a 12-yard touchdown. The extra point was good, making the score 20-10.

 

Strongsville closed out the first half with a big passing play when Nick Carrosellia connected with Brayden Alfred for a 25-yard touchdown, giving the Mustangs a 28-10 lead at halftime.

 

Strongsville came out of halftime and immediately continued its offensive success, scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 35-10.

 

Mentor responded with a huge kickoff return that gave the Cardinals possession near the Strongsville 35-yard line. Mentor took advantage of the excellent field position when Bissett connected with Jeremiah Claridy for a 28-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 35-17.

 

Strongsville answered with a 4-yard touchdown run, extending the lead back to 41-17.

 

Mentor continued to battle as Braylon Callahan scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. The Cardinals attempted a two-point conversion but were unsuccessful, leaving the score 41-23.

 

Strongsville responded with another scoring drive. The Mustangs connected on a 34-yard pass, putting the offense within three yards of the end zone to end the third quarter.

 

Strongsville capitalized in the fourth quarter when Carrosellia ran into the end zone, extending the lead to 49-23.

 

The Strongsville defense then came up with another big play, intercepting a Mentor pass and giving the offense another opportunity.

 

The Mustangs capitalized on the turnover, scoring on a 42-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 56-23.

 

Mentor continued fighting until the final whistle, scoring on a 45-yard touchdown pass to make the final score 56-30.

 

Players of the Game

 

Strongsville: Nick Carrosellia — Accounted for three touchdowns, including passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Carrosellia threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Alfred and also contributed on the rushing game.

 

Mentor: Corbin Bissett — Accounted for two touchdowns, including a 12-yard rushing touchdown and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Claridy.

 

Final: Strongsville 56, Mentor 30.
