Totally 90’s House debuted this week and being the 90’s child that I am, decided to take it in and enjoyed their initial offering. The show is hosted by Jaleel White, famously known as Steve Urkel on the 90’s hit Family Matters.
The premise of the show is that two teams of 3 90’s stars each, are given a budget 200K to modernize a 90’s style house. Each team will also have the help of home remodel experts Sabrina Soto and Carter Oosterhouse.
The teams consist of
Team one: Beverly Mitchell, Brian Foster and Jodie Sweetin.
Team two: Keshia Knight Pulliam, Matthew Lawrence and Melissa Joan Hart.
They will each be equipped with 90’s communications, such as beepers, VCR’s and phone with cords, which was a fun touch.
Team one chose a house in NJ, saddled with mauve carpet, pickled oak furniture, overhead fluorescent lighting, kitchen phone with cord and seashell sinks.
Team two will take on the challenge of modernizing a house loaded with pastel colors, candlestick lighting, sky lights, tape cassette entertainment center and even a intercom system.
All in all, the first episode was fun but sorely overloaded with commercial breaks. The 90-minute show was heavily promoted but saw only about 50 minutes of actual screen time.
I do see some upcoming drama on team one as Beverley Mitchell seems to have no say in anything and is a little too quiet to voice her opinion. I expect David from 90210 and Stephanie from Full House to dominate the decision making process.
Check out Episode Two this Wednesday Night on HGTV.
