Three Items That Make College Life A Little Easier

Starting college is really exciting, but it can also be overwhelming for many. Between classes, studying, homesickness, lack of sleep, and trying to balance everything else, even small things can make a huge difference during the school year. A lot of people focus on fancy decorations or stuff that looks cool in a dorm room, but the things that help the most are usually the simple items you end up using every day. These are my top recommended college items that make everyday life easier.

The most important thing every college student needs is a good mattress topper. Dorm beds are always uncomfortable, and after long days of classes, homework, and studying, sleep becomes really important. A good mattress topper can completely change the way a dorm bed feels. Typical dorm mattresses are flat and hard.  I used a 3-inch memory foam mattress topper, and it helped a lot with the comfort of the mattress. Most college students end up spending a lot of time in their dorm room, so making the bed more comfortable is something that matters way more than people expect.

Another thing every student should have is an outlet surge protector. This is one of those items that people forget about until move-in day. In most dorm rooms, there are never enough outlets, especially when you have phones, laptops, TVs, and even gaming consoles. Having a surge protector makes life so much easier because everything can stay plugged in without constantly switching cords around. I had my TV, PS4, and MacBook charger all plugged into one surge protector during my freshman year. It might not be the most exciting thing to buy for college, but it ends up being one of the most useful.

The third thing every college student needs is some kind of planner that can keep track of everything going on. It does not have to be a physical planner; I used an app on my phone that did the job for me. Either way, keeping track of assignments, exams, meetings, and deadlines is huge in college. Once a class starts piling up, it becomes really easy to forget assignments or lose track of due dates. Staying organized helps lower stress and keeps everything manageable during busy weeks.

The college experience is different for everybody. Some students need quiet spaces to study, others require schedules to help them stay focused, and some just need a good night’s sleep. But overall, having a few important things can actually help make the transition to college a lot smoother. Sometimes the most helpful things are the simple items that make everyday life easier and help students stay comfortable, organized, and prepared throughout the year.
