The Stow-Monroe Falls Bulldogs win 14-10 over the Copley Indians
By Josephine Reynolds
The Stow-Monroe Falls Bulldogs girls lacrosse team won quite an exciting game against the Copley Indians. While the Bulldogs held the lead for most of the game, the Indians did not give up without a fight.
The first quarter started off fantastically for the Bulldogs. Alison Reis, senior midfielder for the Bulldogs, was the first to put a score up on the board. Reis played an incredible game for the Bulldogs, scoring six goals in total for the team. Four of those were in the first quarter alone.
Reis’s energy aided in a surge of goals for the Bulldogs, giving them a 7-1 advantage at the end of the first.
Piper Periard, goalie for the Indians, had some great saves throughout the first quarter, as well. Even with such a high scoring game, Periard was a key player overall for the Indians as she continued to make the saves to stop the Bulldogs from racking up the score even more.
At the top of the second quarter, Tatum Reynolds, junior attack for the Indians, scored her first and only goal of the game keeping the Indians’ game alive. The Bulldogs responded shortly after with two back-to-back goals scored by captain and senior midfielder, Aubrey Owens. Owens scored five goals in total. Owens was another key player of the game, making great plays to secure the points.
At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs continued to lead 11-4. The Bulldogs took control of the ball and continued to dominate out on the field.
The third quarter began with more excitement and energy from the Bulldogs. Owens and Reis tagged teamed a goal to start off the quarter. Owens made the score, and Reis had the assist.
There were only a few points scored in the quarter, but the point that really mattered most was the one scored by Claire Maurer, junior attack for the Indians. This was one of two goals scored by Maurer during the game. This goal jumpstarted the Indians going into the fourth quarter, and that’s why it was such a vital goal for the Indians.
The Indians did not give up. From the start of the fourth quarter, till the very end of the game, the Indians gave it their all. They scored five times within the quarter. It was a remarkable push from the team.
The first goal was scored by Aniyah Henderson, junior attack/midfielder for the Indians. The second was scored by Gabby Smargiasso, senior attack/midfielder for the Indians. Smargiasso scored three goals in total.
Even though the Indians exploded offensively in the fourth quarter, it just was a little to late to be able to defeat the mighty Bulldogs.
Other notable goal scorers from the game; for the Bulldogs, Presley Allendorf, senior attack, Giana LaForge, junior attack/midfielder, and Addison Amos, senior defense/midfielder. For the Indians, Lucy Frazee, junior midfielder, and Layla Sickels, junior attack.
