The North Ridgeville Rangers claim a 12-2 victory over the Midview Middies
By Josephine Reynolds
The North Ridgeville Rangers varsity baseball team won their fourth game in a row tonight against the Midview Middies. The final score was 12-2.
At the top of the first inning, the Rangers started at bat with amazing energy. Within the first few pitches thrown by Middies starting pitcher, Luke Jockel, there were already some hits from the Rangers. The first hit was from Gannon Padgett of the Rangers. Padgett hit a single. Braden Harrison, also a player on the Rangers, grabbed a hit of his own which resulted in a double that led to the first score of the game for the Rangers. With the runs scored by Padgett and Harrison, the Rangers were already up by two. By the end of the first inning, the Rangers managed to expand their lead to 4-0.
Some other notable goal scorers from the first inning are Zach Poltorek and Carter Clark, of the North Ridgeville Rangers.
The second inning started with more action from the Rangers at bat. Emmanuel Ramos, infielder for the Rangers, had a marvelous game. He scored his first of two points at the top of the second. Not only did Ramos have a great game at bat, but he also had a spectacular game on the field, too. The other run he scored was earned by a home run late in the fifth inning. Ramos made incredible catches during the game, as well, and was a key player for the Rangers.
At the start of the third inning, the Middies had a pitching switch to Cole Lowrie. Lowrie was able to help the Middies out and secure a strikeout to start. The switch seemed to be beneficial in the third as the inning was scoreless giving the Middies a bit of a reprieve.
The slight momentum the Middies had continued into the fourth inning. Kellen DeSimone, freshman on the Middies, hit a triple that soon turned into the first run scored for the team. The Middies were finally up on the board, and they took that energy into the fifth inning to score again, making it a 6-2 game. Lucas Hendershot scored that second point.
The sixth inning is where the Rangers really took control of the game. The Middies changed their pitcher again at the top of the inning hoping it would help them get ahead. However, that pitcher change might have been a key mistake. Kellen DeSimone, the new pitcher for the Middies, really struggled. The Rangers managed to take advantage of the amount of walks they were receiving due to DeSimone and his pitches. The Rangers scored back-to-back racking up their inevitable winning score of 12-2.
