UFC 245 Recap & Reaction

Jessica Eye gets back on the winning end of things with a razor thin victory over Viviane Araujo. It was nice to see Eye win a fight she should have, however coming into weigh-ins 5 pounds over is very concerning when it comes to her focus.

Matt Brown KO’s Ben Saunders with some of his vintage power. Brown will never challenge for a UFC title but his first KO finish since 2015 shows he still has flashes of power.

Saunders has fought 6 times since 2018 and lost five, he may be done in the UFC.

Geoff Neal finishes Mike Perry at only 90 seconds with a flurry of fists of a nice head kick . Perry who is no longer platinum, perhaps a tarnished bronze at this point. Neal looks incredible and may be the next big thing at 170.

Petr Yan looked incredible with a 3rd round head kick to put Uriah Faber out. A great fight between two warriors. Faber is a legend, but Yan is on the rise and it showed tonight with a well-rounded performance. Big things ahead for this young man.

Marion Moraes defeats Jose Aldo in a tactical fight. Not much to see here either way. Let’s move on.

Amanda Nunes vs Germaine de Randamie

Nunes dominated the first round and almost finished Randamie several times. Then it was Randamie coming out and looking incredible with knees to the chin of Nunes to almost stun her at the start of the second.

All Nunes in the third with an excellent ground and pound!

Holy cow!!!!! Randamie almost finishes Nunes in the fourth with an incredible leglock around the head and throat of Nunes. The champ escapes but just barely.

It is all Nunes in the fifth to put it away with ease by decision.  I had it 48-47 Nunes.

Max Holloway stood in front of Alexander Volkanovski and got kicked in the shin for five rounds. Not sure if something was wrong with Max, but he didn’t look like himself and has now lost his title because of it.

All signs pointed to Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covinginton being a five round wrestling match. Instead, it was a five-round toe to toe war that became and instant classic. I loved this fight tonight. Both guys looked amazing as they took shot after shot and refused to budge or back down.

In the end, Usman was just a little bit better and got the stoppage with only 54 seconds left to go. The second latest title fight stoppage in UFC history. I would have loved to see it go to the cards and I believe it was an early stoppage.

This fight NEEDS to happen again. All in all, a great night of fights that I believe lived up to the billing!
