Rocky River Wins the Baron Cup with Victory Over Hudson

BROOKLYN, Ohio – The Rocky River Pirates were able to snag the Red Division Baron Cup
winning in overtime against the Hudson Explorers.

The first period started out with lots of skating, and little scoring. There were less than 30 shots on
goal in the first period, but both teams came up short of any goals. Most of the key plays
throughout the period were by each goal tender, senior Ben Pinkerton on the Explorers, and
sophomore Jackson Greear on the Pirates.

The start of the second period began with a penalty on the Pirates. Hudson sophomore, Ace
Berghoff, managed to score on the power play. Quickly after, The Pirates got their first power
play of the game that resulted in a power play goal scored by junior, Nolan Toole.

A little more action throughout the period resulted in a tie game of 1-1 headed into the second intermission.
The players came out for the third period with fire underneath their skates. The Pirates were
awarded a power play and hoped they could take advantage of the opportunity to take the lead.
Unfortunately, they came up short and Hudson was able to take the penalty kill.

A scoreless third period led to another Baron Cup final heading into overtime.
As the overtime period started, both teams were fighting for the cup. There was a lot of action,
yet shots on goal remained stagnant. As the time clock winded down, fear of double overtime
was looming.

However, Jackson Rood, senior for the Rocky River Pirates, was able to score the winning goal
by giving the Pirates a 2-1 win over the Explorers to earn the Red Division 2026 Baron Cup
