Lorain County Leviathan announced today the signings of area standouts goalkeeper Zoltan Nagy of Lakewood, Ohio, and midfielder Justin Shreffler of Westlake, Ohio, as the club continues to build momentum both on and off the field ahead of its inaugural season.
Nagy joins Leviathan following a decorated career at both the high school and collegiate levels. A four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at St. Edward, he earned All-Ohio and First Team All–Greater Cleveland honors before moving on to Duquesne University.
At Duquesne, Nagy started all 35 matches over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, posting an 18-11-5 record while ranking among the program’s all-time leaders in goals-against average, save percentage, and career saves. He was instrumental in a program-record 11 consecutive home wins and earned three Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2024. Across four NCAA seasons, Nagy started all 65 matches he appeared in, finishing with 285 career saves and a 1.28 goals-against average.
Shreffler arrives in Lorain County carrying a championship pedigree and strong local roots. As a freshman at Indiana University in 2023, he was part of a Hoosiers squad that won both the Big Ten regular season and Big Ten Tournament championships, appearing in five matches and making his collegiate debut at Notre Dame.
Prior to Indiana, Shreffler was a four-year letterwinner at Westlake High School, totaling 46 goals and 30 assists while earning United Soccer Coaches All–Midwest Region honors and participating in the All-America Game. He helped lead Westlake to a conference title and an undefeated regular season and also competed at the club level with Spire FC.
The signings come as Lorain County Leviathan continues to see overwhelming support from the community. The club has surpassed 450 season ticket sales ahead of the season and is anticipating a large opening-day crowd for its Memorial Day opener at Forefront Field. The combination of young local talent and proven veteran players has provided a significant lift throughout Lorain County as the community rallies behind its new hometown team.
“This club is about more than results,” said Andrew McDonnell. “We want to be part of people’s lives. We want to be a community asset and a place where memories are made — from someone’s first ever soccer game to families who remember spring nights at the stadium together. No one is going to remember when we beat Pittsburgh 5-0, but they will remember how coming to Leviathan games made them feel.”
Lorain County Leviathan will open its home schedule on Memorial Day at Forefront Field.
