On January 21st, 2026, the Rocky River Pirates Girls Basketball team faced the Valley Forge Patriots, resulting in a Pirate win, 68-16.
The game started off strong as Valley Forge won the tip off and drove the ball downcourt. The Pirates displayed incredible defense, especially from Olivia Dewey, but Delany Kercher still managed to score a basket for the Patriots. Elizabeth Lang then scored two back to back baskets for Rocky River.
The Patriots attempted to score, but Claudia Roche and Angelina Swallow’s defense prevented it. After getting the ball back from Valley Forge, Nora Bruder went on a scoring streak with three baskets, one of which being a three pointer. The Patriot’s Lexi Samarin then scored two points. The Pirates’ offense was on fire during this quarter, and it closed with back to back baskets from Claudia Roche, Elizabeth Lang, Nora Bruder, and Olivia Dewey. The quarter ended with a score of 28-4, Rocky River.
The second quarter started off strong with amazing ball movement from the Pirates, leading to a basket from Elizabeth Lang. The Patriots seemed to be more fired up this quarter, with Lexi Samarin and Mikayla Huang both scoring. Nora Bruder followed their baskets up with three points for the Pirates. Gracie Kercher then drove the ball downcourt and scored for Valley Forge. Jane Frolo then scored for the Pirates, followed by two baskets from Elizabeth Lang to end the half with a score of 52-14, Rocky River.
The third quarter began being quite uneventful. The first five minutes of the quarter consisted of zero baskets, but did display fantastic defense from both teams. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Pirates eventually broke through their defensive wall. The quarter ended with a Rocky River scoring frenzy, with baskets from Nora Bruder, Elizabeth Lang, and Claudia Roche. The score was 52-14, Pirates.
The final quarter mirrored much of the third. It began with a basket from Valley Forge’s Lexi Samarin, but this was followed by yet another Pirate streak. Claudia Roche, Angelina Swallow, Elizabeth Lang, and Kylie Dewitt all scored Pirate baskets, ending the game with a final score of 68-16, Rocky River victory.
