Cleveland Monsters Unable to Secure a Win in Providence

The Cleveland Monsters continued their road trip this past weekend, stopping in Providence, Rhoad Island, to take on the Providence Bruins at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18. The Monsters struggled in both games against the Bruins and were unable to secure a victory this past weekend. After this road trip, the Cleveland Monsters are now 17-14-4-1 and in fifth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.

Saturday, January 17

The Monsters were unable to score any points during Saturday’s game, with the Bruins taking a quick lead at 4:58 in the first period, followed by a second goal at 16:33 to send the Monsters into the first intermission down 2-0. The Bruins managed to secure another point at 12:27 of the second period to end the first 40 minutes of play 3-0. The Monsters were unable to make a dent in their score while Providence added two more tallies at 7:39 and 16:49 to end Saturday’s game in a 5-0 loss.

Ivan Fedotov was in goal for the Cleveland Monsters on Saturday and made 25 saves out of the total 30 shots on goal.

Sunday, January 18

Cleveland faced off against Providence again the next day but still fell short. The Bruins were able to score two goals in the opening period of Sunday’s game, securing a tally at 5:53 and 19:31, leaving the Monsters behind 2-0 after the first frame. The Bruins kept their lead when they scored at 6:05 and 6:21 in the second period, ending starting goaltender Zach Sawchenko’s night, and wrapping up the second period 4-0.

Providence took advantage of a third period power-play to secure a goal at 5:36 in the final frame. Owen Sillinger managed to get the Monsters on the board when he was able to score a goal at 11:42 with an assist from Luca Pinelli. Sillinger added another mark to Cleveland’s score when he secured a man-advantage goal at 16:28 with help from Luca Del Bel Belluz and Luca Marrelli, but the Bruins responded with their own goal at 17:38 to end the game 6-2.

Ivan Fedotov made 10 saves out of 12 shots on goal after relieving Zach Sawchenko, who saved 9 out of 13 shots on goal.
