Rocky River Defeats John Hay

On December 10th, 2025, the Rocky River Pirates girls basketball team faced the John
Hay Hornets, resulting in a Pirate win 59-30.

The first quarter had a slow start, as both teams’ defenses stood strong and didn’t allow
any points. That is, until Elizabeth Lang broke through the John Hay defensive wall to score 2
points for Rocky River. Once she put points on the board, the Pirates went on a rampage with 2
points from Olivia Dewey, and 4 from Nora Bruder. It didn’t stop there, though.

The Pirates defense stayed fierce and paved the way for a 3 point basket from Claudia Roche, 2 points from
Nora Bruder, and 2 points from Olivia Dewey. Following these baskets, John Hay broke through
Rocky River’s defense as Concestance Mallet scored 2 points.It was clear that both teams were
working immensely hard, and a third Pirate scoring streak ended the quarter with a free throw
from Angelina Swallow, 2 points from Elizabeth Lang, and finally a 3 point shot from Olivia
Dewey. The quarter ended with a score of 21-3, Pirates lead.

The second quarter began with aggressive Pirate offense, which made way for three
point baskets from Nora Bruder and Claudia Roche. The Hornets seemed to have a new fire in
this quarter, as the Rocky River three pointers were followed by baskets from both Jordyn Webb
and Carly Fisher. The half closed with a three pointer from Rocky River’s Angelina Swallow and 2
points from Maia Petrulis with a score of 37-9, Pirates.

The second half started with a heightened sense of competitiveness, as the Hornets
were eager to even the score, and they hit the ground running with a 3 pointer from Carly
Fisher. The Pirates didn’t put up with it for long, though. Pirates’ Nora Bruder score 2 points,
followed by Elizabeth Lang scoring 2 as well. John Hay’s Jordyn Webb was able to sneak in a
Hornet basket, but the rest of the quarter was spent on a Pirate scoring streak with several
baskets from Elizabeth Lang and Maia Petrulis, ending at a score of 51-18, Pirates.

The fourth quarter began uneventfully as both teams’ defense stood strong, until John
Hay’s Sana Hicks made a free throw and Concestance Mallet scored a 3 point shot. Elizabeth
Lang then scored two points, along with Claudia Roche for Rocky River. The game ended with 5
points for the Hornets from Jordyn Webb, closing with a score of 59-30, Pirates Victory!

The top scorers for the Rocky River Pirates were Elizabeth Lang, Olivia Dewey, Nora
Bruder, Maia Petrulis, and Claudia Roche. The top scorers for the John Hay Hornets were
Concestance Mallet, Jordyn Webb, Carly Fisher, Sana Hicks, and Kenyan Brewer
