Cleveland Monsters Rally in Chicago Doubleheader

The Cleveland Monsters headed to Allstate Arena on Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, to face off against the Chicago Wolves. The Monsters fell short on Saturday, suffering a 3-2 loss, but managed to bounce back on Sunday to win 3-2 in overtime. This now makes the Monsters 4-3-3-1 and puts them in sixth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.

The game kicked off with no points being scored by either team. It wasn’t until 14:48 in the second period that the Wolves scored their first goal of the night to lead 1-0. The Monsters were able to follow up with their own goal at 18:32 in the second period to tie the game 1-1. The Monsters’ goal was scored by forward Brendan Gaunce with an assist by Caleb MacDonald. The Chicago Wolves scored another goal at 2:33, then again at 14:49, to bring the score to 3-2. At 18:38 in the third period, the Monsters’ Guillaume Richard scored a shorthanded goal to end the game with a 3-2 Wolves victory. Cleveland’s Ivan Fedotov was in goal on Saturday and made 28 out of the 30 shots on goal.

Cleveland was able to pick it up on Sunday, November 16. The Monsters began their lead with a goal from Justin Pearson with an assist by Guillaume Richard and Corson Ceulemans at 17:18 in the first period, putting them ahead 1-0. The second period was left scoreless, and Chicago scored their first goal in the third period at 5:36, then their second soon after at 8:30, to put the Wolves in a 2-1 lead. Overtime was forced when Monsters’ forward Roman Ahcan scored a goal at 13:52 with assists by Jack Williams and Owen Sillinger. The victory would be secured by Cleveland when Luca Pinelli scored the game-winning goal at 1:23 of the overtime period, with help from Brendan Gaunce and Brendan Smith, allowing the Monsters to win 3-2. Zach Sawchenko was in goal on Sunday night for the Monsters and saved 25 of the 27 shots on goal.

The Cleveland Monsters will be back home to face off against the Hershey Bears on Thursday, November 20, and Saturday, November 22, at 7 p.m. at Rocket Arena. The games will be available to listen to and watch on Rock Entertainment Sports Network, Newsradio WTAM 1100, SportsRadio 99.1, AHLTV on FloHockey, and the Monsters Hockey Network.
