Brecksville-Broadview Heights Seasons Ends at Highland

Granger, OH – No game last week, no problem.

In a Suburban League inter-conference D2R6 quarterfinals showdown, the top seeded Highland Hornets took down the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees 38-7.

On the first drive of the football game, BBH quarterback Nate Henegar threw an interception to Nick Dobkowski which started the snowball effect for the game. Despite facing fourth down twice, Highland’s Grady Gibb calmly converted both of them and Casey Myser scored the opening touchdown to make it 7-0.

Brecksville punted the ball before the end of the first quarter, and on the ensuing drive, Gibb found Dobkowski for a massive first down near the red zone. That would lead to another Myser touchdown and the Hornets were now up 14-0.

The Bees refused to die quickly, as they marched to the Hornets 15 yard line. But on fourth down, Liam Zielinski shot down a potential touchdown pass and the Bees would turn it over on downs. The Hornets capitalized with a long and methodical drive, milking a lot of clock in the process. It would end with another touchdown run, this time by Grady Gibb from one yard out and the Hornets took a 21-0 lead into the dressing room.

The Hornets got the ball to start off the second half, and would quickly score a touchdown from 33 yards out, being Myser’s third of the game. Henegar threw a second interception, this time to Jameson Gordon, and the Hornets would score immediately, this time being a 12 yard run by Dylan Lazar.

With a running clock for the tenth time this year, Highland would eventually score again with a 36 yard field goal by Jonah Kowza. Brecksville would get their only hurrah on the next play, which was an 80 yard run by Peter Chermonte. That would make it 38-7 and that would ultimately be the final score.

Highland is now 11-0 and will host North Ridgeville in the D2R6 semifinals this Friday night. It is the fifth consecutive year the Hornets have reached this point in the playoffs. Brecksville meanwhile ends their season with a 7-5 record. Both teams will switch sides in the Suburban League next season with Highland going to the National Conference and Brecksville to the American Conference.
