ELYRIA, Ohio – Lake Catholic delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball Friday night, shutting out Elyria Catholic 26-0. The Cougars came out strong and improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Panthers dropped to 3-4.
The Cougars set the tone early with a 55-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Max Pisano less than four minutes into the game, giving Lake Catholic a quick 7-0 lead. The defense followed up with a sack by Marty Loncar, forcing a Panther punt and giving Lake Catholic favorable field position in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, running back Danny Zmorowski took over, sparking the offense with a 33-yard run and later punching in a 1-yard score to extend the lead to 14-0. A strong defensive stand and a late drive set up a 19-yard field goal by Gavin Fredriks to extend the lead to 17-0. Just seconds later, the Cougars’ special teams forced a safety on the ensuing kickoff, taking a commanding 19-0 lead into halftime.
The Cougars did not let up after the break. After a quick defensive stop and a fumble recovery deep in Panther territory, Pisano capped off a short drive with his second rushing touchdown of the night from 3 yards out, extending the lead to 26-0.
Elyria Catholic showed flashes of offensive promise, especially from running back Zion Castillo and wide receiver Connor Lattea, but penalties, sacks, and injuries halted any momentum. The Panthers’ final push was cut short when safety Carter Matejka of the Cougars intercepted the ball, sealing the game at 26-0.
