Granger, OH – This is getting out of hand by now. First McDowell, then Hudson, then Avon Lake, then Aurora, then Copley, and now Tallmadge.
In what was the last game against Highland and Tallmadge as Suburban League foes, the Hornets decimated the Blue Devils 62-0.
The game almost started out disastrously for the Hornets, as senior Luke Gerding muffed the opening kickoff before fumbling later in the play which led to them starting at the 7. Unfazed and led by quarterback Grady Gibb, the Hornets scored in that drive when Gibb punched one left side from 16. In fact, there was only one drive that did not end in a Hornets touchdown, which was when Gibb threw a rare interception in the second quarter. But the senior would not be rattled by it as he would throw three touchdowns, two to Gerding and one to Evan Foust, and run for two.
It’s also worth noting that Casey Myser ran for two touchdowns to bring his total up to 13 on the season. Highland poured it on throughout the first half as they scored 28 in the first quarter and 21 in the second. Their last touchdown in the first quarter came with 8 seconds left and their last one in the second quarter came with 13 seconds to go. Tallmadge did not cross midfield until their only drive in the fourth quarter, which resulted in a turnover on downs.
For the Blue Devils, senior quarterback Braxton Dente threw two interceptions with both of them coming in the first half. The two who came up with the picks were Cooper Zielinski and Evan Foust. By the second half, coach Mike Gibbons had put in all his backups. There, Dylan Lazar had a long touchdown run to make it 55-0 when the extra point was blocked. After the aforementioned turnover on downs by the Devils, another Highland senior quarterback Aiden Pulice ran one in from one yard to score the final touchdown and end the game 62-0.
Highland has their homecoming game next week against the Barberton Magics, while the Tallmadge Blue Devils will travel to Richfield to play the Revere Minutemen.
