Portage County Top 10 High School Football Rankings (Week 8)

Back by popular demand, here are the Top 10 rankings for Portage County High School football teams.

  1. Aurora (8-0) As the old saying goes, defense wins championships, and the Greenmen continue to put up stellar defensive performances. Last week was no exception, only allowing 7 points against Medina Highland, who had won two straight going into last Friday night’s contest. This week: vs. Revere
  2. Streetsboro (8-0) After a competitive first half, the Rockets turned on the jets in the 2nd half, scoring 35 points on their way to a 49-13 victory over Field, clinching a share of the PTC Metro Division in the process. They’re also off to their best start in school history and look to expand upon that this weekend. This week: at Woodridge
  3. Mogadore (7-1) The Wildcats got a huge win on the road, beating Garrettsville Garfield 39-21, thanks in part to a huge game by sophomore running back/linebacker Tyler Knight. They are now in the drivers’ seat of the PTC County Division. This week: at Southeast
  4. Garrettsville Garfield (7-1) Despite a tough loss at home, the G-Men are still in the top half of Division V, Region 17, according to JoeEitel.com. They go on the road this Friday night to face a hungry Crestwood team looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.
  5. Ravenna (6-2) The Ravens picked up a huge win, shutting out Akron Coventry, 36-0, to remain in a tie for 2nd in the PTC Metro Division. They remain 7th in Division III, Region 9. This week: at Akron Springfield
  6. Rootstown (6-2) The Rovers got a huge victory against Crestwood last week when Trey Burch found Travis McCrady for a game-winning touchdown to secure a much-needed victory. This week: vs. Valley Christian
  7. Kent Roosevelt (5-3) The Rough Riders kept their playoff hopes alive, ekeing out a huge one-point win at home against Revere. With Friday night’s victory, they moved up to 10th in Division II, Region 5, and are still in the midst of the Suburban League American Division race. This week: vs. Garfield Heights
  8. Crestwood (6-2) The Red Devils dropped a heartbreaker against Rootstown on Friday night, putting a snag in their playoff hopes. However, they have two huge opportunities to right the ship and qualify for postseason play. The first of those will come in a key Friday night match at home against Garrettsville Garfield.
  9. Southeast (4-4) The Pirates improved to .500 with a victory against Valley Christian last Friday night. One of their biggest wins of the season came against Western Reserve to open up the season. They have a chance to potentially pick up two more to close out the year. The first of those opportunities will come in a home matchup against PTC County leader Mogadore.
  10. Field (3-5) The Falcons gave it their all against Streetsboro last Friday, but were worn down by the vaunted Rockets offense. Nevertheless, they remain 11th in Division IV, Region 13, and still have a sliver of a chance to make the postseason, but will need to win out and get a lot of help. This week: vs. Akron Coventry
