Lorain holds onto a thrilling 34-32 win over Maple Heights.

It was a thrilling finish to the high school football regular season. As the Lorain Titans held onto a narrow 34-32 road win where they took on the Maple Heights Mustangs.

The Mustangs would actually start off with the 6-0 lead with 7:09 left in the first quarter. This was quarterback’s Luke Anzlovar first of five passing touchdown’s on the night.

But this was only the beginning for Anzlovar who would quickly find his team trailing 27-6 with still 8 minutes left in the half!

Lorain would score 4 straight touchdowns on 4 straight drives. Running Back Ocir Kimble brought in the first two himself as the Titans had their run game rolling early.

Kimble brought in 111 rushing yards, and fellow running back Toriano Allen had 63 yards on the ground.

Lorain’s quarterback Chase Davis completed just 3 of his 12 passes on the night, but made sure to make it count. His lone touchdown pass would give Lorain that 27-6 lead.

With 8 pentalies for 70 yards by the Mustangs, it looked like the Titans were running away with the game.

But a quick 5-play 98 yard touchdown drive would stop the bleeding. But having no legit kicker on the roster would come back to hurt Maple Heights as they still trailed 27-12.

This is where Anzlovar single-handedly kept the Mustangs in the game. As he made all the throws going for 316 yards and the 5 TD’s.

That’s right. Maple Heights would be able to erase a 21-point deficit.

It was a one score game by the end of the 3rd quarter thanks to big help from 10 different receivers.

Anzlovar even had one more game-saving touchdown with 9:46 left, but once again the 2-point conversion was missed.

The Mustangs had one last shot with time on the clock in the fourth quarter, but Anzlovar threw his two INT’s at the most crucial times.

This time, Lorain’s WR/DB Joseph Gaines made the game-winning play as the Titans were able to just hold on.

The win would push the Titans to 9-1 on the season, clinching the Lake Erie League, and guaranteeing a home playoff game along the way.

While the loss would have the Maple Heights falling to 7-3, and forcing them to have a road playoff game.

Tonight’s player of the game would have to go to Lorain’s running back Joseph Gaines who tallied 111 rushing yards along with 2 rushing touchdowns, and you can’t forget about his 2 catches for 94 yards either.
