Walsh Jesuit Defeats Archbishop Hoban, 19-14, in Friday Night Thriller!

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio – Walsh Jesuit got a late defensive stop to defeat Archbishop Hoban, 19-14, for the first time since 2013.

The two teams dueled to a scoreless first quarter, but Walsh Jesuit broke through in the second.

Aidan Henry would return a Hoban punt deep into Knight territory. Two plays later, senior quarterback Keller Moten found Henry for a 32-yard touchdown reception. The ensuing PAT was good and Walsh Jesuit jumped on top, 7-0, with 10:58 left in the second quarter.

After another Hoban punt, Walsh Jesuit found the end zone once again. Keller Moten broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run. The ensuing point after was blocked, and the Warrior lead stood at 13-0 with 4:42 left in the second quarter.

The score would stand at 13-0 at the half.

Hoban looked to add their first points of the game in the third quarter. A Brayton Feister long touchdown run was called back due to a holding penalty. The Knights were forced to punt a few plays later.

Walsh Jesuit took possession looking to add to their 13-0 lead. Keller Moten found Aiden Henry for a 49-yard reception to put the Warriors in the end zone. They came away empty handed as the 32-yard field goal attempt went wide right.

The score would remain 13-0 at the end of three, until Hoban found the scoreboard in the final quarter.

On third down, Elbert “Rock” Hill found Jackson Callaway for a reception to move the Knights into Warrior territory. Two plays later, Trent Hayden found Hill for another reception to put Hoban in the red zone. Hayden then scrambled to his right and found sophomore John Johnson for a ten-yard touchdown reception. The PAT was good, and Hoban cut their deficit to 13-7 with 9:21 left.

Walsh Jesuit then moved inside the Hoban 25, helped by a Milan Parris reception. However, the Warriors were set back by a pair of penalties and a tackle for loss, and were forced to punt.

The Hoban offense got right back to work. Brayton Feister picked up a pair of key first downs on the ground to move the Knight offense forward. He also came up with a huge 15-yard touchdown reception from Trent Hayden to knot the score. The ensuing point after was good, and Hoban took the lead, 14-13, with 2:20 left.

But the Warriors responded on their ensuing drive. Keller Moten found Aiden Henry for a first-down reception on the first play. Moten then rushed for a pair of first downs to put the Warriors in field goal range.

Moten then broke loose one more time for a ten-yard touchdown to put Walsh Jesuit back in front, 19-14, with 39.8 seconds left.

Hoban had one last chance to win the game. Trent Hayden rushed for a first down, and two plays later, found Tylan Boykin for a reception to move the Knights to the Walsh Jesuit 22. Walsh Jesuit’s defense broke up two pass attempts, the later in the end zone by Grant Blascak and James Brewer to end the game and set off a wild field-storming celebration by the Warrior student section.

Walsh Jesuit remains unbeaten at 7-0 and travels to Notre Dame Cathedral Latin on Friday, October 11th.

Archbishop Hoban drops to 5-2 and hosts Glenville on Friday, October 11th.

The senior signal caller threw a touchdown and ran for one in the second quarter. He also led the game-winning drive, capping it off by scoring for the second time with 39 seconds left.

Brayton Feister (So) Archbishop Hoban

Feister is a player to watch for in the Class of 2027. The sophomore tailback ran for multiple first downs and was tough to tackle all evening. He scored through the air in the fourth quarter to give Hoban the lead.
