The Bay Rockets hosted the Westlake Demons on a rainy Friday night. This one was a decisive 28-14 win which was much needed after their shutout loss last week.
The scoring didn’t start until early in the second quarter coming from a play fake by Bay. In two-running back formation, Rocco Ereditario would throw a 18-yard t touchdown pass to tight end, Colin Breito.
The Rockets defense would force a 3 and out and it didn’t take long for them to score once again.
On the second play of the drive, running back Charlie Rodgers broke loose for a 57-yard touchdown run which put Bay up 14-0 with 7:31 left in the 2Q.
It was just the 4th run for Rodgers on the night who eventually took over as the featured running back the next drive after Ereditario suffered an injury and did not return to the game.
Rodgers finished with 187 yards on the night along with accounting for two of Bay’s four touchdowns on the night.
Bay took their 14-0 lead into halftime as their defense wouldn’t allow anything in the first half.
Westlake’s starting quarterback Sam Brucchieri finished with just 3 completions on the night out of 15 pass attempts. He threw one interception, and also had one touchdown.
Bay really put the game away in the 3rd quarter with a 13 play 65-yard touchdown drive which took off more than 7 minutes on the clock! It was a drive which featured all runs as Bay took a 21-0 lead on Westlake.
As if a 3-score wasn’t comfortable enough, Bay would make sure to make it a 28-0 lead following a 1-yard goal line rushing touchdown from Danny Barker.
Barker finished with 51 yards on 10 touches including the one touchdown on the night. The Rockets had an impressive 392 total yards from their running backs. Which was needed as the rain picked up heavily in the third quarter and continued.
The Demons two touchdowns on the night would come in the last 6 minutes of the game. As they would put together back to back touchdown drives after recovering the onside kick.
Unfortunately it wouldn’t be enough as the Bay Rockets were able to hold onto the 28-14 win over the Westlake Demons.
Tonight’s player of the game no doubt comes from Bay’s running back Charlie Rodgers who stepped in big time after starter Rocco Ereditario suffered an injury in the second quarter and did not return.
Rodgers had a big night of 187 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
