Perkins Runs All Over Rocky River in the Duel of the Pirates

Perkins Pirates star running back Isaac Bunts was too much for the Rocky River Pirates in a monsoon of a game. The Perkins Pirates came out victorious in a lopsided game, winning 49-0.

The 1st quarter started very unexpectedly, starting with Rocky River attempting an onside kick to start. Perkins Pirates’ Isaac Bunts came out of the gates running hard. In Perkins very first drive, Bunts had a 51-yard carry to get the Pirates all the way down to the 3-yard line. The Pirates gave it right back to Bunts to punch it in for six. Perkins took an early 7-0 lead thanks to Bunts 5 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown in the first 1:43 of the first drive.

The Rocky River Pirates looked to get things started of their own by attempting a deep pass to their receiver downfield that was ruled incomplete. Later in the drive, Rocky Rivers quarterback Ryan Taylor threw an interception, ultimately turning the ball right back over to the hands of the Perkins Pirates.

The Perkins offense came right back onto the field feeding Bunts. A few nice defensive plays by Rocky River had Perkins facing a 3rd and 10. Perkins quarterback, Sam Schweinfurth, finds his receiver Brady Legando on a screen pass for a gain of 22 and a first down. The Perkins Pirates offense and Bunts had no problem marching down the field for another touchdown. This gave Bunts his second touchdown of the game and found Perkins up 14-0 at the 8:38 mark in the 1st quarter.

The Rocky River offense once again steps back out onto the field hoping to get something going. Rocky River’s Taylor was doing everything he could to gain some momentum for the Pirates offense. Taylor has yet to complete a pass but was utilizing his legs just fine for a nice pickup of 13 yards and a first down. Taylor’s first pass completion came in their second drive of the game to wide receiver Ben Kuhnen for a nice gain. Taylor was putting the game in his own hands, doing everything he could to keep the chains moving down the field. However, an 11-play drive that lasted just over 5 minutes was ended due to a fumble that was recovered by Perkins.

Bunts came out yet again this time racking up a nice 13-yard gain to start their drive after the Rocky River turnover. Schweinfurth tried to get the connection going with star receiver Braylon Collier, however, there was a miscommunication there and the two failed to hook up for a catch. This led to a shocking quick drive that forced Perkins to punt the ball away.

Taylor and his Rocky River offense stepped back onto the field hoping to finally get something going. Taylor was doing it all but the monsoon prevailed, making Taylor slip in the backfield resulting in a sack. In a familiar fashion, Rocky River had yet to do anything with their drive once again, ultimately running the clock down with 3 seconds left in the 1st quarter before calling a time-out. Taylor got a short pass completed downfield as the 1st quarter came to an end on a personal foul on Perkins. The Rocky River offense stepped back onto the field to start the second quarter and it resulted in a quick 3 and out.

Bunts was still leading the way, doing it all in Perkins first drive of the 2nd quarter. The downpour was now starting to take its effect on the run game, seeing Bunts fumble the ball but being recovered back by Perkins. Bunts is still running the ball super well and Perkins is feeding him. Bunts caps off a long first 2nd quarter drive that resulted in 13 plays. Bunts made his way in for his 3rd touchdown of the game and made the score 21-0 Perkins at the 5:30 mark in the 2nd quarter.

Rocky Rivers struggled to continue with yet another quick 3 and out to start their second drive of the 2nd quarter. The Perkins offense came back out onto the field still feeding Bunts. Perkins didn’t do much with this drive; a personal foul that set them way back led to a turnover on downs and they would punt the ball away.

Rocky River got the ball back with 1:16 left in the 2nd quarter. In a familiar fashion, Rocky River didn’t do much in their last drive of the quarter. Perkins went into the break up 21-0. Bunts had 21 carries for 194 yards and 3 TDs at the break and Taylor had 14 carries for 42 yards and was 3/8 on passing with 20 yards and an interception at the break.

Rocky River kicked things off in the 3rd quarter receiving the ball. Everything was going Rocky River’s way during this first drive of the 3rd quarter. The penalty flags were being thrown left and right during this drive. A strong Rocky River drive that put them in the redzone was put to rest by another interception from Taylor.

Bunts was still running hard late in the game bouncing off of people left and right showing no signs of slowing down. Bunts broke away for a huge 51-yard rushing touchdown giving him his 4th touchdown of the game and putting Perkins up 28-0 with 2:46 left in the 3rd quarter.

Another poor drive from Rocky River forced them to punt the ball. A poor punt by Rocky River left Perkins in scoring position with 34 seconds left on the clock in the 3rd quarter. Once again, Bunts made his way to the endzone scoring his 5th touchdown of the game early in the 4th quarter putting Perkins up 35-0.

Rocky River had yet another quick 3 and out and was forced to punt the ball away to Perkins. Bunts monster night continued with another 51-yard rushing touchdown to make it his 6th of the night putting Perkins up 42-0. His 6th rushing touchdown of the night tied Perkins’ school record.

Yet another quick 3 and out for Rocky River forced them to punt. The snap was fumbled which led the punter to pick the ball back up and try and punt it away. Linemen Dylan Grant got in the way of the punt-blocked it-and recovered the ball in the endzone for a touchdown.

Rocky River got the ball back to end the game and let the clock run out. The player of the game for the Perkins Pirates was Isaac Bunts with 28 carries for 332 yards and 6 touchdowns and the player of the game for the Rocky River Pirates was Ryan Taylor 22 carries for 65 yards and was 5/15 passing with 22 yards and an interception.

The Rocky River Pirates hope to bounce back at Keystone to get back into the win column whereas the Perkins Pirates hope to improve on their 3-0 record in a battle at home against Harvest Prep.
