Olmsted Falls Dominates the Run Game and Takes Down Canfield in the Rain

Olmsted Falls – The Canfield Cardinals came into Olmsted Falls to take on the Bulldogs in a showdown that was highlighted by the wet conditions all night.  The home team prevailed as they defended home turf in a 35-6 win against the Cardinals led by a strong running game.

Canfield elected to receive first and took their offense into the wet conditions first.  Unable to find much in the opening minutes, the Cardinals were forced into a 3 and out after multiple penalties stalling the drive and allowing Olmsted Falls to start with great field position at midfield.

The Bulldogs couldn’t get much going on their first drive either as 3 straight runs end up leading to a punt. The next Canfield drive had more penalties and little run or pass support to move the ball.

Olmsted Falls would be gifted good field position for the second time though after the weather conditions struck again and the punt fell short at the Canfield 22 where Olmsted Falls took over.  The Bulldogs ground game would start to gain some momentum up front and allow for #26 Owen Singleton to prance into the endzone on a 6-yard TD run at the 5:31 mark in the first quarter.

The ensuing Canfield drive looked to be promising until they were forced into a fourth down that led to Canfield’s QB, Enzo Cocca, throwing an INT to #20 Andrew Minor giving the ball right back to the Bulldogs.

Heading into the 2nd quarter, Olmsted Falls continued the strong option ground game and stayed discipline on the Offensive line to allow for #26 Singleton to run for his second touchdown of the night early in the 2nd quarter.

A muffed punt after another three and out would put the Bulldogs back in great field position for the third time of the night.  After a couple more fullback dives up the middle the Olmsted Falls QB, #9 Jimmy Rosol, faked the handoff and rolled to the right and found a wide open #2 Logan Connelly in the back of the endzone to make the game 21-0.

The stifling Olmsted Falls defense continued the next drive with a huge sack by Andrew Minor and gave the ball back to the Bulldogs.  Chewing out the rest of the clock on the half and working their way down the field again, Rosol would throw his second touchdown of the night to Connelly on only his third pass attempt.

28-0 Bulldogs up at the half.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs continued their success on the ground and didn’t go away from it.  Singleton continued what he started in the first half and went in for another TD at the 7:34 mark of the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 35-0.

Another quick Bulldog stop on defense put the offense back on the field to drain some more clock.

All was not lost for Canfield as they would get a big pass of 32 yards from #1 Tyler Rappach to #17 Adam Christy midway through the 4th quarter and would be paid off by a 5-yard TD run to put the Cardinals on the board.

Olmsted Falls ran out the rest of the clock and improved their record to 3-0 on the year.
