NORTH OLMSTED, OH – Girls’ basketball begins this week and the SWC is once again loaded with talented seniors.  In prior years, the MVP chase was typically down to two or three players in contention, this year, we have 6 who can make a strong case for the award.  This is by far the most impressive senior class I have covered since I began covering girls’ basketball in 2018.  I’ll say it again, the SWC is senior heavy and this bunch below, are the ones I expect to stand out the most as we head into the 2023-2024 drama filled campaign.

** AGAIN, THIS IS STRICTLY THE SWC CONFERENCE**

Grace Kingery of North Ridgeville

Reason – She has already broken every major record in North Ridgeville Girls basketball history and the best is yet to come as a senior.  She has an incredible work ethic and will only continue to get better. She dominated games late in the year and was instrumental in their season ending win over Midview at home.  Kingery straight wills her team to victory some nights and with her running mate Brooke Lime getting better and better, this tandem becomes even more dangerous.

Olivia DiFranco of Midview

Reason – She is incredible and right up there with Paige Kohler as one of the greatest basketball players I have ever covered in High School, boy or girl!  This award is hers to lose this season as she is a crystal-clear front runner for many reasons.  The battle between her and Kingery twice last season, gave everyone a front view on how special this coming season will be for both of them.

DiFranco is next level talented and can do it all. Score, play defense, rebound, assist and flat-out lead.  She is the real deal total package! Being in the media, we get in for free, but I’ll admit, Olivia is the kind of talent I’d pay to watch.  A lot of people think Meng leaving for MSU will hinder DiDranco, I find it to be just the opposite, as the focal point, we will see the best version of Liv we have ever seen.  Grab your popcorn and enjoy watching one of the best talents this area of the state has ever seen!

Marisa Summerfield of Avon Lake

A four-year starter, Summerfield found her mojo once again her junior year to lead the Avon Lake Shoregals to a tremendous bounce back season.  When Summerfield is playing with full confidence, there is nothing she cannot do!  A great passer and scorer, as her defense continues to improve, she can lead the Shoregals to an SWC Crown this season.  If there was ever a sleeper to win the MVP award, it is Summerfield as she is sneaky good!

Kristen Kelley of Amherst

She overcame an early ankle injury last season to have one of the best seasons of her high school career.  Kelley can score at will, and her with Kayla Ferancy will make up the best one two punch in the conference next season. If she can stay out of foul trouble which isn’t easy considering her ultra-physical style of play, she will be dominant once again!

Grace Mangan of Avon

When it comes to scoring, Mangan and the Eagles knew how to do it last year! Mangan was lights out from long range, and when her Bengu and Laub got cooking all at the same time from long range, there was no stopping the Eagles!  Mangan plays for one of the best coaches in the state and is poised to have a gigantic senior season. Mangan is not one to seek the attention, so the casual fans may not have heard of her yet, but when you watch an Eagles game, you will learn quickly just how good she is!

Danielle Cameron of Olmsted Falls

She was one of the SWC leaders in almost every offensive category her junior season.  In March, with the lights on bright, she lit up the nets and was unstoppable.  No moment is too big for Cameron!  This year without Kalich and Kohler, Cameron may put up 30 a game, even in coach Jordan Eaton’s system where everyone scores every night.  Cameron is just that good!  I cannot wait to watch “DC” play and LEAD this season! It’s her time now, she learned from the best.
