North Ridgeville, OH— Danielle Cameron’s 19 points and Mia Kalich’s 19, led the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs (14-3) to a thoroughly sound victory over conference rival North Ridgeville (10-8), 61-30 Wednesday night.
The Rangers trimmed the Bulldogs lead to four points in the second quarter and were still hanging around down 31-18 at halftime. But, a quick six points from Kalich and a three from Paige Kohler to start the third allowed them to run away comfortably.
Even with a strong second quarter, Cameron kept the Rangers at bay almost by herself. She scored 12 of the team’s 15 points in that period. The one-two punch that Kalich and Cameron provided tonight was undeniable. But head coach of Olmsted Falls, Jordan Eaton, spoke glowingly of his entire team and the refreshing selflessness on the court.
“As a group they’re just very unselfish. You’ll see a game like tonight where Mia can have a big game and then someone else can have a big game another night, all because they don’t really care who gets the offensive credit, so that’s unique.”
What also was working was the defense for the Bulldogs. The full court press created a lot of opportunities for them to get out in transition. Eaton spoke on the weapons that the Rangers have, telling his team to “stay focused on the defensive end, especially against North Ridgeville.” They certainly succeed in that aspect too, forcing Grace Kingery into some tougher shots.
She still managed to drop 16 and was the only scorer in double digits.
Suffering a loss to a familiar foe is never an easy pill to swallow but, Rangers coach Amy Esser had quite the response as to what she preached to her girls with the tournament near. “I tell them goldfish. [It] has the shortest memory of any animal I feel like. They think I’m crazy but you just have to forget about it and move on.”
North Ridgeville will hit the road this Saturday to face Avon at 1:30. Olmsted Falls plays Elyria away on Saturday at 1:30 also.
Very classy, well coached teams. Hats off to both teams! 👏
