North Ridgeville took the field on homecoming night looking to take out their frustrations after three straight losses. The Rangers went right down the field using their running game with Freshman running back Zach Barnhart. Barnhart had multiple good carries in a row that was followed by a Brenden Watchorn QB sneak to take the lead on their first drive 7-0.
Ethan Beitel who is listed as a RB stepped up at QB due to an injury to Marc Reed. Beitel was phenomenal to start the game, a 55-yard pass and a 22-yard pass tied up the ball game in just two possessions from both teams.
The first quarter continued to have action as the Rangers re-took the lead with a 17-yard pass on fourth and long to Connor Costin who caught the ball over his shoulder to extend the Rangers lead to 14-7.
Once the first quarter ended both offenses struggled to get anything going until the second half. Both defenses stopped big plays and contained the run game between the tackles. Even though the Rangers had the lead at half the momentum was dead even at half.
The Middies got the ball to start the half with intentions to tie the game. These intentions turned into North Ridgeville ambitions to extend the game. Ethan Beitel’s screen pass attempt was jumped by Carson Madis for a pick six in dramatic fashion to increase the lead 21-7.
The North Ridgeville defense forced a fumble on the following possession. The Rangers defense couldn’t get anything going as they turned the ball over themselves. They continued being strong on defense throughout the game thanks to the defensive spark from Carson Madis.
Beitel, who was solid in the first half struggled to find his stride in the second half. He finished the game going 15 for 36 with 202 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The Rangers defense stopped the Middies not just on the ground but in the air as well.
In the second half the Rangers planned on running out the clock by handing off to Freshman standout Zach Barnhart who ran for 88 yards off of 19 carriers. The Freshman did a great job of putting his shoulder down and gaining the extra yard as he led his Rangers to a 24-7 win.
Our Back Attack Snacks player of the game is Sophomore standout Carson Madis who made an impact on offense and defense. On offense he rushed for 62 yards and four carries, on defense he had a game changing pick six and a strip sack resulting in a turnover.
