Tonight, we return to the fall tradition of High School football on Friday night. We have The Euclid Panthers with their rookie Head Coach Robert Andrews hosting The Aurora Greenmen. Aurora’s coach Bob Mihalik looked to start his 22nd season right with a win over Euclid.
Aurora hit the gas early in this game and never let up, Thanks to the efforts of QB #10, Matt Geier.
Geier’s first play from scrimmage netted him a run of 74 yards for the game’s first score. Aurora’s combination of ground and pound football and a passing game that seemed to be on point all night.
Euclid didn’t have any answers to the assault from Aurora. Incomplete passes and problems handling the ball plagued the Panthers all night. Daemauri Robinson had problems keeping the ball in his hands throughout the game.
Robinson fumbled the ball twice on the first drive eventually giving the ball up to Aurora. That was a predictor of things to come. At the end of it all Aurora topped Euclid 38-6.
As I noted above the game did not start off well for Euclid after kicking the ball to Aurora touching a player and going out of bounds at the 16 yard line. #10 QB Matt Geier led the Greenmen straight down the field with a keeper for 74 yards on the first play from scrimmage for an Aurora touchdown. Euclid taking their first drive led by QB # 2 Daemauri Robinson, who fumbled the ball twice in the series, one for a loss of three yards and the other for a turnover. The turnover was on a sack/fumble.
Unfortunately for Aurora they could not capitalize on the turnover. Aurora drove down to the Euclid 4 yard line where they turned it over on downs. Euclid could not capitalize on the stop as 2 rushes and an incomplete pass would see Euclid punt, fair catch by Aurora at the 25 yard line. Geier took some hits while the 1st quarter wound down, getting sacked twice, losing the ball via fumble on the sack to Euclid. Euclid’s troubles continue as the quarter winds down, Robinson was intercepted by #15 Sam Retton. Aurora would score again off a Matt Geier keeper 3 yards for the touchdown. PAT was good giving the Greenmen a 14-0 lead.
The second quarter was not any better for Euclid, starting the quarter off with a false start and then Robinson threw an interception, picked off by Zach Anzells. Aurora intent on capitalizing on the pick. Geier passed to Cade Fromwiller for 51 yards for another Aurora TD, putting them up 21-0. Euclid would start to show signs of life in the second quarter going 10 plays for 80 yrs to put points on the board. However, the PAT by Euclid was blocked on a bobbled snap. We go to the half 21-6.
The second half was all Aurora, putting their rushing game on display. Geier would hand off to Alex Tenorio for 22 yards for the score. 31-6 with the addition of a Dom Trivisisonno. Aurora would go on to score one more time in the third to make the score 38-6.
The fourth quarter was marked by backups for Aurora, while Euclid still tried to get back in the game. Robinson threw a number of incomplete passes and inadequate rushing could not bring the Panthers back in the game. Aurora speeds away with the W 38-6 in week 1
