Westlake Varsity Demons defeated Elyria Catholic Panthers Varsity 1-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Adam Zevnik struck out Levi Ellis to finish off the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Westlake Varsity Demons pitchers struck out six, while Ellis sat down three.
Westlake Varsity Demons opened up scoring in the first inning. Aidan Keir grounded out, scoring one run.
A single by Ellis in the second inning was a positive for Elyria Catholic Panthers Varsity .
Hugh Sullivan earned the victory on the mound for Westlake Varsity Demons. The bulldog lasted six and a third innings, allowing seven hits and zero runs while striking out four. Zevnik threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Zevnik recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Westlake Varsity Demons.
Ellis took the loss for Elyria Catholic Panthers Varsity . Ellis went six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out three.
Cael Cipollone, Nolan Ponstingle, Grant Tucholski, and Greyson Elyederani each collected one hit to lead Westlake Varsity Demons. Westlake Varsity Demons was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Chris Protos had the most chances in the field with eight.
The Demons have a chance to win the GLC West Division outright as they will travel to Elyria Catholic tomorrow for a 5 pm game!
