Hudson defeats Kenston, 11-6, in chilly Friday evening affair

Hudson, Ohio – Two weeks into the start of the spring season, the weather in Northeast Ohio has barely been cooperative.

The conditions at The Ballpark at Hudson were far from ideal, with the threat of rain throughout the night, plus a brief hail shower before first pitch.

Nonetheless, a baseball game was played on Friday night.

A go-ahead RBI triple and steal of home by Sam Scharville in the fourth inning propelled Hudson to victory over Kenston, 11-6.

Kenston jumped ahead, 2-0, in the first, thanks to RBIs from L.A. Mighton and Drew McKenna.

Hudson responded in the bottom half of their frame with six, thanks to a pair of bases-loaded walks, and a Ben Sage double down the right field line.

Kenston would respond with a pair of runs in the second to cut their deficit to 6-4.

In the third, Carter Flynn laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to bring in a run, and Parker Munday hit a single to left field to plate another run.

After a scoreless frame from each side, Hudson took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth.

After a lead-off walk, junior catcher Sam Scharville delivered a triple into the right-center field gap to push the Explorers ahead, 7-6.

Scharville would later steal home to increase the lead to 8-6.

Hudson looked to add more in the home half of the fifth, loading the bases with two out. But Kenston relief pitcher Parker Munday had a huge strikeout to get out of the frame unscathed.

The Explorers would add three more in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Hudson’s pitching also came through on Friday night. Sophomore Noah Madar came on in relief for starter Chris Buzzeli, throwing 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball and striking out five batters.

Junior reliever Jack Britton struck out the side to close out the game.

Hudson (2-6) takes on Brecksville Monday afternoon.

Kenston (0-1) hosts Willoughby South to open up WRC play.
