UFC Fight Night Minneapolis Recap & Reaction

The UFC aired its live show for free on the main ESPN tonight for only the third time.  All other ESPN shows have been on the streaming app ESPN Plus.  This, like the other two was a good one.

Here are some quick recaps from the night!

UFC Fight Night On ESPN 3 Recap

Francis Ngannou has been labeled as someone with no gas tank, little heart, and little style.  That being said, the man touches you and it is all over. He proved it again tonight that he can do anything if you give him the space to work.  He is so powerful and it didn’t take long for him to turn the lights off on JDS. In fact, it only took 1 minute and 11 seconds.

I honestly feared for JDS life tonight.  4 of his last 5 losses have been by KO, and JDS as of late, has shown a bit of shaky chin.  Factor that in with the brute strength of Ngannou and the possibilities were endless.

Ngannou wants the winner of the DC vs Stipe showdown in August.  I still feel either one of those men would embarrass Ngannou, but after tonight, who really knows.

Maurice Greene loves to finish fights, with plenty KO’s and Subs, it was no surprise to see him knockout Junior Albini and grab some attention of even the most casual MMA fans tonight.

At 4-3, this was a make or break fight for Emily Whitmire however she is suspect to submission and tends to leave herself wide open.  Amanda Ribis knw that going in and took full advantage of it laying on a choke on her to put her to sleep.

Dalcha Lungiambula can finish you with elbows and punches, the skill set is just that good.   Dequan Townsend became the latest victim of just that tonight.

A loser in 4 of his last 5, the once promising Eryk Anders was in desperate need of a big win to get his career back on track.  While Vinicius Moreira isn’t exactly a big name, this convincing knockout can get people talking about Anders once again.

Alonzo Menifield can be a very scary human being, and he showed why tonight with a dominating knockout of Paul Craig.  Menifield stalked his prey as Paul Craig spun one too many times, and right into a devastating flurry of fists from Menifield.

14 fights into his UFC career, Drew Dober wants to go from UFC journeyman to UFC contender once again.  In his way was Marco Polo Reyes who proved to be easy competition, He came right at Dober, as expected and go put out.

Anthony Rocco Martin is 16-4 and a serious threat to win performance of the night every time he steps in that cage, but even with that, few have heard of him.  His opponent tonight was Demian Maia who is one of the best of all time never to never wear UFC gold.

The fight was about as even as it gets and not much in the way of excitement however.  It could have gone either way as the scores of 28-28, 29-28 and 29-28 showed.  In the end, the judges had it for the veteran Maia.

Benavidez is a mixed bag.  So much talent and promise, but can never seem to win the big one.  His losses are all against big names, Dominic Cruz twice, Demetrius Johnson twice, and Sergio Pettis most recently, about a year ago.

Benevidez won the rematch tonight with a brutal knockout of Jussier Formiga.  This is now the second time he has beaten Formiga.  For Benevidez, he needs to go on another run right now, with 15 UFC wins, it is time to start knocking off the big names out there.
