The question of is Baker Mayfield the guy, never seems to go away in Cleveland.  Through four seasons he has thrown 92 touchdowns next to only 56 interceptions in 59 regular season starts.

He has also gone 29-30 in regular season starts for the Browns.  However, that number is truly 30-30 when you think about the game that he entered against the Jets in 2018 with the Browns down 14-0 and led them back to win.

The bottom line is Mayfield has led the Browns out of football Hell since they drafted him, including leading the Browns to their first playoff win since 1994.  Not only that, but the win came in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field, a place the Browns hadn’t won since 2003.

Mayfield has done a more than a capable job with all that has been asked of him.  But there in lies the question, do you want someone who is capable of a 500 record, maybe slightly better, or do you want a game changer?  The answer should be clear to you.

Without a stud in the draft being available at 13 when the Browns pick, along with no shot at Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, it appears to be trade Baker for a veteran or keep him.

With that being said, can they find last years Matthew Stafford or Carson Wentz suddenly on the trade block?  Time will tell, but here are a few options that appear to be a leader in the clubhouse.

There are 5 viable options to replace Mayfield at starter this upcoming season.  For each, I give you a pro and a con and a firm decision as to if Andrew Berry should try to make a switch.

  1. Stop blaming Baker for our bad offense, The coaching staff is the real reason. Stop coddling the coach, he puts Baker in more losing situations than winning ones. Don’t believe me? How come we don’t use the best running back tandem in the NFL at the same time and make defenses adjust to us. He modeled our impressive offense after the juggernaut Minnesota offense the set what 30 straight NFL records for scoring (he said sarcastically)? Give us a break and call the coaches out, and don’t forget Joe Woods, Not offense, but has constantly failed to stop the other team when the game was on the line.

  2. Keep Keenum and Mayfield, draft a rookie in lower rounds. QB position is fine as it is. FIx the rest of the offense (except the running backs).

  3. This sounds like the most viable option. Baker has the talent; don’t set him up to fail like the Browns & the Buffalo Bill’s have done for over 20 yrs. And, Get rid of Landry(?). Ok so he had a lacklustre season, or was it they did not have an adequate 1 – 2 punch on receiving positions after OJB left? I never liked him (OBJ) but the 2 of them were productive, I am fairly sure!
