The Raiders pieced together four scoring drives while the Browns only managed to cross midfield twice. In the end, that is all it took for the Las Vegas to put away Cleveland 16-14. A 48-yard last second field goal by Daniel Carlson handed the Raiders the win, improving them to 7-7 while the Browns fall to the same exact record.
The Browns offense struggled all game thanks in part to conservative play calling and dropped passes. Third string quarterback Nick Mullens did what he could however as he finished with 147 yards on 20 of 30 passing with 1 touchdown. He averaged only 7.35 yards per completion in a game plan that didn’t call on him to do much of anything.
Nick Chubb needed the game of his life and didn’t get one. In fact, the Raiders kept him well in check into the fourth quarter when he finally started to find some holes and move the ball. Chubb tallied 91 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown.
But again, it wasn’t Mullens or Chubb to blame, both did what you asked of them. In the end, it was the same thing that has plagued the Cleveland Browns well over 50 times since 1999, and that is the fact that they couldn’t get a last second stop at home and gave up a game winning field goal to lose.
If you think I’m making that up, or being dramatic, go back and look it up. Start with 1999, and the number of times the Browns have lost on a last second field goal is astronomical.
If you want to lose, play not to lose. They did it again tonight. Soft play calling on third down and unable to stop anyone on defense late.
You can stick up for the defense and mention how they only let up one touchdown, but quite frankly, I once again don’t see it that way. They let up four scoring drives and couldn’t get a stop when they needed one the most.
Derek Carr did just enough as he went 25 of 38 for 236 yards with a touchdown. He even gifted the Browns an interception inside of 3 minutes and Cleveland sill couldn’t put it away. Why? Because they played not to lose and when you play not to lose you lose……….
Right on
What a garbage read blame Covid not the players 20 player out idiot
Very simplistic view of a complex game with even more complexity forced into it with new players having to play with little preparation together.
