Quarterback of the Year
Sam DeTillio of Avon
1472 passing yards and 22 touchdown passes.
410 rushing yards on 50 rushing attempts.
Reason – While these numbers are extremely impressive as it is, you have to also factor in the fact he didn’t play in several second halves this year as the Eagles were routinely up big. He played against some incredible defenses along the way as well as a brutal out of conference schedule to open the season.
Sam has every tool in his bag of weapons to make him a very dangerous quarterback and natural leader. Sam had big shoes to fill after Nikko Pappas graduated, and I feel he has filled them very well. On top of all of this, he has a backfield of Jakorion Caffey (873) and Gavin Ehrardt (438) that has already combined for 1,311 yards on the ground, which kept the ball out of his hands quite a bit as well.
Had they been pass orientated like other programs tend to be, I don’t doubt for a second, Sam would have went for over 2,500. Avon though, was smart as always to keep it even and that is why they continue to be a success year in and year out.
Graham McDougle, Avon name is misspelled. It is MCDOUGLE. Thank you!
