2019 NFL Draft Winners & Losers

  • The dust has finally settled from the 2019 NFL draft and it is officially time to start looking into the new season for fantasy football. Here is a quick list of the biggest winners and losers from a season long outlook for this season.

Losers

  1. Mike Davis RB Bears- Da Bears drafted David Montgomery in the third round out of Iowa State. It’s a shame too cause I was really looking forward to seeing him finally get a shot at being at least a 2 down back in an NFL system. A week ago i projected him as high as the 6th round, Now Davis isn’t more than a last round lottery ticket.

  1. Jordan Howard RB Eagles- Philly always uses numerous backs under the the current regime. Adding Miles Sanders in the second round out of Penn State though just makes it to be too many mouths in one backfield. Avoid this backfield as a whole this season.

  1. Todd Gurley RB Rams- Now don’t panic too much and think this is gonna mean he’s gonna lose his starting job to 3rd round pick Darrel Henderson out of Memphis. But this could mean a possible down tick in regular work load for the fantasy MVP. Gurley should still be a first round pick in drafts, let others over think this pick, but it would take him out of top 5 for me now.

  1. Sony Michel RB Patriots- This pick left me scratching my head more than any honestly. Damien Harris in the third round from Alabama a year after drafting Michel in the first in 2018, just doesn’t compute to me at first glance. We all know Bill hates our fantasy teams, so this may just be a realization that Brady isn’t gonna carry the team anymore and they’ll be even more of a run dominated team and win close games on third downs from Brady. Regardless, I would keep an eye on the RB situation around the end of camp. Someone could get cut with this signing that we aren’t expecting.

Winners

  1. Lamar Miller RB Texans- The Houston Texans didn’t draft a running back of note this draft which is surprising because Lamar doesn’t really pop for their run game. No matter, he should produce good value around the end of the 4th round early 5th with the amount of carries he’ll get alone.

  1. Peyton Barber RB Buccaneers- Tampa is standing pact with a backfield duo of Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones. Neither one is too appealing for fantasy, but with new coach Bruce Arians bringing his philosophy out of the booth, my money is on Peyton Barber to get majority of work early and often and really put a strangle hold on the lead back spot for Tampa. Look for him around the 8th round.

Devonta Freeman RB Falcons- Atlanta drafted offensive lineman early and often in this years draft. Freeman’s biggest issue is health but a better O line should help the situation for a little while at least. Also not drafting a RB and having only Ito Smith has a viable touches candidate helps too. Expect a great reward on drafting Freeman at the end of the second round possibly even early third this season.

  1. Leonard Fournette RB Jaguars- Fournette was thought to be in the dog house coming into this draft for his off field antics and even on field with the fighting that took place towards the end of the 2018 campaign. The boys from Duval county not only didn’t address running back, unless you count Alfred Blue, which I do not, they had arguably the steal of the draft in O lineman Lawaan Taylor. He should help open up some holes for Fournette who you know will dominate goal line work. Expect to see his name going off the boards mid to late second round.

Please like, share, and comment your feelings on this list on who I’m leaving out or who shouldn’t have been in ! Football season is officially upon us now, no longer can you say it’s too early to start worrying about your 2019 championship !
