North Ridgeville, Ohio – North Ridgeville defeated Rhodes, 73-62, in Division I, Northeast 6 Copley District play Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter featured a barrage of triples from both teams. Antwan Reynolds hit four threes for the Rams, and Jackson Stacy countered with a trio of his own. In total, there were eight triples, as Rhodes raced out to a 21-15 lead.
The Rangers adjusted to the frenetic pace of the Rams in the second quarter, eventually taking the lead thanks to a Griffin Turay putback. Turay scored 13 of his 15 first-half points in the second quarter as North Ridgeville led 36-28 at the half.
The Rangers maintained their lead in the third quarter, as Turay added eight more points, and Jackson Stacy canned another triple. Kenyon Giles had 11 points for the Rams in the same period, as the score stood at 56-50.
Rhodes cut their deficit to as little as four, but could get no closer. On the other hand, Ridgeville took a double digit lead on two separate occasions. The first came with 3:30 left in the third.
The Rangers went on a game deciding 7-0 run late in the fourth to put the game away, catalyzed by a Jake Boynar basket with 58 seconds left. They took their largest lead for the final margin with a Carson Iezzi layup.
North Ridgeville, now 18-6, takes the winner of Olmsted Falls/Garfield Heights on Wednesday, March 1st, in a Copley District semifinal. The Rangers were led by junior Griffin Turay, who had 24 points, followed by senior Jake Boynar, who had 19. Sophomore guard Jackson Stacy added 14.
Rhodes finishes their season at 17-7. The Rams were led by juniors Antoine Edwards and Kenyon Giles, who each had 20 points. Senior Demetrius Jones added 13.
